Rachel Spellman of the Office of Environmental, Health, Safety and Risk Management (EHSRM) recorded the minutes. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved by acclamation.UpdatesSri LankaOn Easter Sunday of last month, three churches and three hotels in Colombo, Sri Lanka’s capital, were targeted in a series of coordinated bombings. Sources estimate the death toll at more than 250. On May 20, the New York Police Department (NYPD) provided analysis of the incident, along with other security updates, at its regular NYPD SHIELD conference. Hazard MitigationNew York City Emergency Management (NYCEM) has released the 2019 New York City Hazard Mitigation Plan, outlining goals, objectives, and specific actions New York City can take to reduce risks. NYCEM is hosting a briefing and cruise in Jamaica Bay later today, May 31, on the CUNY I to introduce the new plan. NYCEM is conducting walkthroughs of designated evacuation centers and special medical needs shelters. Michael Agnew is coordinating with NYCEM. EHSRM TeamJenna Coplin has left the Central Office for a leadership position with the CUNY School of Professional Studies (SPS) and we wish her success in her new role. EHSRM has welcomed Ben Daggett to the team as the new Environmental Compliance Director. Recently Ben worked as a member of Brooklyn College’s EHS staff, and prior to that, assisted CUNY campuses as a technical services representative with Triumvirate Environmental. We look forward to his continuing contributions to the EHSRM mittee ReportsInsuranceJames Harper, ESHRM, reported that the committee is reviewing CUNY athletic insurance policies. He noted that CUNY’s athletic insurance is meant to provide accident coverage, not general health coverage, so the committee will be examining potential gaps in coverage. TravelKurt Klein, EHSRM, spoke on behalf of Kim Holland, International Education, informing the Council that the committee has reviewed a large number of trip proposals for upcoming summer sessions. He added that CUNY will be sending volunteers to Puerto Rico again this summer to aid in ongoing rebuilding efforts. Infectious DiseasesAndrea Facey-Hutchinson, CUNY Health Services, reported that the committee continues to monitor measles data and guidance from the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH). The committee is also watching for spikes in mosquito-borne infectious diseases with warmer weather approaching. Information TechnologyAngel Henriquez spoke on behalf of Diana Tucker, Computing and Information Services (CIS), reported on the IT Resiliency Program Team’s 2019 Business Continuity Awareness Week, an annual event sponsored by the Business Continuity International organization. This year’s event ran from May 13 to May 17, with a theme of “Investing in Resilience.” CUNY’s campaign focused on efforts underway to achieve resiliency for the technologies that support the University’s essential academic and business functions.Student AffairsShahreen Laskar, Residence Life, informed the Council that end of semester activities are underway, as students will be vacating dormitories soon. Residence Life staff are preparing for conferences and other summer session events. Emergency PreparednessMichael Agnew, EHSRM, reminded the Council that the CUNY, in collaboration the Department of Homeland Security, is hosting “MGT-361 Managing Critical Incidents at Institutions of Higher Education.” It will take place next week June 4-6, here at 205 East 42nd Street.
