Position SummaryWhat is the main purpose of this position? Why does it exist? (e.g., to administer client database; to create marketing strategies; to provide administrative support to department of 6 people, etc.) As a member of the London based International Team, under general supervision, represent and market NYU to potential students at on-campus and off-campus recruitment events; cultivate relationships with students, parents, high school and college guidance counselors to encourage a positive response and interest in attending NYU and promote NYU and its' schools and programs. Assist with the achievement of University, geographic, and department enrollment targets by encouraging qualified students to apply to NYU. Review and evaluate students' admission applications. Approve or deny applications and recommend borderline applicants to Admission Committee’s for further consideration. Advise students, parents, and high school and college guidance counselors on application process, University and School programs, academic requirements, financial aid options, housing, and other student services. Collaborate with other team members to identify and recruit for special scholars programs. Become knowledgeable in various international curricula.2. Principal Accountabilities What are the major responsibilities of this position? List the what, how and why of each responsibility and provide examples, as necessary. Develop and cultivate positive relationships with students, parents, and high school and college guidance counselors with the goal of promoting serious interest in NYU and its' respective schools and/or programs and to encourage positive impression of NYU and all of its offerings. Encourage qualified students to apply to NYU to achieve University, geographic and department enrollment targets. Analyze application data and recommend to management new schools or regions to target recruitment efforts at in order to achieve enrollment targets. Plan respective recruitment activity calendar (when/where to make high school visits and attend college fairs) and manage travel expenditures against budget. Advocate for International Students and counselors throughout the admissions process. 35%Evaluate and assess students' applications (academic and extracurricular records, essays, letters of recommendations, test scores, etc.); solicit additional information from students and/or guidance counselors as needed to determine if applicant fits the NYU student profile and whether or not the student would have a successful and positive academic experience at NYU. Approve or deny applications; recommend/advocate on behalf of borderline applicants for Admissions Committees' consideration. Assess transfer applicants’ previous course work to establish NYU equivalencies and determine number of advance standing credits to be granted.30%Advise students, parents, and high school and college guidance counselors on application process, University and School programs, academic requirements, financial aid options, housing, and other student services to ensure a successful transition to NYU. Consult with other University offices (Advisement, Financial Aid, Housing, Schools and Colleges) to resolve related issues (financial aid appeals, housing, etc.) on applicant/students behalf. Deal with general enquiries and administrative tasks associate with the successful running of the London Admission Office. Contribute to the strategic development of the program. Position QualificationsRequired Education/Employment ConditionsBachelor's degree Candidates must have the unrestricted right to work and live in the UK prior to appointmentRequired Experience 1 year admissions or related student services experience.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to promote the University and to work independently as well as part of a team. Outstanding interpersonal, public speaking, and writing skills. Ability to handle sensitive situations and/or people. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel extensively. Strong organizational ability and keen attention to detail. Preferred Valid driver’s license. Preferred Experience Relevant admissions experience, including working with international populations.Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of working within an educational organization, especially at the Higher Education level. Knowledge of US Higher Education. Familiarity with international secondary curricula.4. Institutional Impact Indicate quantifiable factors that provide a framework for the position, e.g., number of faculty and/or employees supported, students counseled, events planned, size of budget managed, etc. Position travels approximately 4 weeks in the Fall and 2 weeks in the Spring to high school and community colleges internationally; counsels students in various phases of applicant process (perspective, admitted, rejected, returning, internal transferring, high school); controls respective travel budgets.5. Authority & Accountability Is the incumbent executing or developing policy (provide examples)? Does the incumbent's work deliverables impact individual department, overall school or unit or entire University - specify primary deliverables. The incumbent will liaise with internal and external constituents on various admissions related issues. Position will have the ability to serve on office-wide committees (ex. Transfer admissions, policies, events and messaging). Incumbent will be expected to work as part of the International Team to accomplish enrollment management goals for various schools, colleges, and programs at the university. 6. Critical Thinking & Decision Making Provide 1 or 2 examples of the most important decisions made by someone in this position and those referred to the next level. Incumbent will have the ability to manage his or her own recruitment travel for fall and spring, with some supervision over budget and data driven decisions. Incumbent will also be expected to use professional judgement when reviewing admissions applications to determine when a final decision can be made on the first read, vs when a larger committee of admissions staff should weigh in. 7. Internal/External Contacts Indicate with whom the incumbent regularly interfaces with and the purpose of the contact, e.g., provide counseling to students, negotiate contracts with vendors. Incumbent will regularly interface with prospective high school students and prospective transfer applicants, parents, internal university colleagues within admissions and in other offices, high school guidance/college counselors. The interface will primarily be to provide information about NYU and our admissions process in general. 8. Indicate the number of employees supervised at each level.
