Things to Know Before You Arrive - UCF Alumni

Welcome to A Gift For Teaching! We are pleased that you have chosen to volunteer with our organization, which is celebrating 15 years of being Central Florida's primary provider of school supplies that enable children to dream, create and experience success in school and life. We truly believe that you will find your experience to be both enjoyable and rewarding.

Volunteers are the heart and soul of A Gift For Teaching (AGFT). It takes a team of dedicated volunteers to operate the Free Store and we are always looking for new members. Through AGFT, everyone has the opportunity to recycle goods at the highest level, improve the educational system, and positively impact the lives of local students in need.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."

-- Margaret Mead

It is with great pleasure that we welcome you aboard! Please feel free to contact our Volunteer Manager with any questions, suggestions, or concerns: by phone at (407) 318-3126 or by e-mail at Volunteer@. Thank you so much for the gift of your time.

Things to Know Before You Arrive

Dress Code:

Due to our concern for your safety and the nature of the volunteer work you will be doing, we advise all volunteers to wear comfortable clothing that you do not mind getting dirty. We require all volunteers to wear closed-toe, closed-heel shoes when they volunteer with us. This policy is mandated by our insurance company. If you are volunteering with a group and are wearing inappropriate footwear, please understand that we cannot guarantee special accommodations and that you may be unable to participate with your group in its activity. We strictly enforce this policy.

Waivers:

Please complete the two waivers found at the end of this packet. Print, sign and bring them with you on the day of your volunteer service.

Request:

A Gift For Teaching asks that each of your team members bring a new school supply donation when your group volunteers. Our most needed school supplies include: loose leaf paper packs, 24-count crayons, 8-count marker, glue sticks, and 12-count colored pencils. We greatly appreciate your help with this request.

Did you know you can double your impact? Many employers offer matching gift programs to encourage employees to contribute to charitable organizations. Most of these programs match contributions dollar for dollar, hours for dollars and some even double or triple the amount of your gift! To find out if your employer offers matching donations, check with your human resource department or the corporate giving personnel at your office.

Restrictions:

All volunteers must be at least 12 years of age. Volunteers under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. A Gift For Teaching's site is accessible to people with disabilities. Please notify the Volunteer Manager in advance if anyone in your group will need special accommodations.

What you will be doing:

Group volunteer projects vary from day to day depending on AGFT's needs. They are almost always conducted in our Volunteer Work Room or Free Store and include, but are not limited to sorting, bundling and merchandising donations. If your group requires low impact tasks for volunteers with limitations, please let us know in advance so that we can accommodate your entire group.

Confirmation and Cancellation Policy:

Please contact our Volunteer Manager at least two business days in advance to confirm the date, time, and number of volunteers for your group, who may be reached at (407) 318-3126 or Volunteer@. If an emergency or other circumstance will prevent your group from attending its scheduled activity, or your group will be bringing a different number of volunteers than originally planned, please let our Volunteer Manager know as soon as possible using the contact information above.
