2017 TEXAS FOOTBALL MEDIA GUIDE

2017 SEASON OUTLOOK

BIG 12 MEDIA DAYS KICKOFF 2017 CAMPAIGH Texas will officially begin the 2017 campaign on Tuesday, July 18 when head coach Tom Herman and selected student-athletes will meet the media for the Big 12's annual media days. The event will take place at The Star in Frisco, home of the Dallas Cowboys. A few short weeks after media days, the Longhorns will officially report to campus for the beginning of fall camp. The season kicks off on Sept. 2 when UT plays host to Maryland inside of Darrell K Royal - Texas Memorial Stadium.

HEAD COACH TOM HERMAN AND STAFF A Texas Ex and former Longhorns' graduate assistant, Tom Herman was named the 30th head football coach in UT history on Nov. 26, 2016. Herman spent the previous two seasons at the University of Houston, where he compiled a 22-4 record. In his first season at UH, Herman helped the Cougars to a 13-1 record and a victory in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl over No. 9 Florida State. In 2016, his Cougars defeated two top-five teams in No. 3 Oklahoma and No. 3 Louisville.

Herman put together an experienced staff for his first season on the 40 Acres, as he and his assistants have combined to recruit the state of Texas for 108 years, win four national championships, produce 42 All-Americans, 170 NFL players and 218 All-Conference selections. The 2017 coaching staff is as follows: Tim Beck (offensive coordinator/quarterbacks), Stan Drayton (associate head coach/run game coordinator/running backs), Oscar Giles (defensive line), Corby Meekins (tight ends), Drew Mehringer (pass game coordinator/wide receivers), Craig Naivar (special teams coordinator/safeties), Todd Orlando (defensive coordinator/ linebackers), Derek Warehime (offensive line), Jason Washington (recruiting coordinator/cornerbacks) and Yancy McKnight (head strength and conditioning coach for football).

THE 2017 SCHEDULE The Longhorns once again face a challening 2017 slate which includes eight bowl teams from a season ago and opponents that combined for an overall record of 83-69 (.546) in 2016. In the nonconference portion of the schedule, UT hosts Maryland and San Jose State before traveling to play Southern California in week three. The matchup with the Trojans will mark the first time the two storied programs have played since the 2005 BCS National Championship Game. In Big 12 Conference play, Texas hosts Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Kansas and Texas Tech while traveling to Iowa State, Baylor, TCU and West Virginia. The Red River Showdown will be played on Oct. 14 at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Beginning with the game at USC, Texas will play the winners of last year's Rose, Texas, Sugar, Alamo and Cactus Bowls within a six-game span.

KICKOFF TIMES ANNOUNCED FOR SIX GAMES The Big 12 Conference announced six kickoff times and TV designations for the Longhorns 2017 slate on May 31.
