Scholarships

Kappa Alpha Psi: Deadline April 2, 2015. Seniors with an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher are encouraged to apply. This scholarship considers the student’s involvement, family income, and academic record. Applications are available in guidance and should be mailed to the address on the application when complete.

Trojan Alumni Association Black History Scholarship: Deadline April 8, 2015. Scholarship (s) awards to Gulfport High School graduating senior(s) entering an accredited college or university in the summer or fall of 2015 who can show overall academic achievement and school/community involvement; and write a 500- 1000 word original essay. At least one (1) $1000 scholarship will be awarded based on key considerations. The second award (depending on funds and applicant pool availability) will be based on key considerations and financial need. Applications are available in guidance and must be returned to the guidance office by April 8th.

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity: Deadline April 10, 2015. This black fraternity will award up to three $1000 scholarships to young men who demonstrate leadership, community involvement, have an 84.5 or higher GPA, and an18 or higher GPA. A letter of recommendation and a 500 word essay highlighting your leadership qualities and extra-curricular activities must accompany the application. Applications are available in guidance and should be mailed directly to the address on the application.

Krewe of Gemini Scholarship- Deadline April 14, 2015. Seniors are eligible who have demonstrated financial need and community/school involvement. Two $1,500 scholarships will be awarded. Applications must accompany 3 character reference letters, transcript, a short essay, and a detailed biographical statement explaining how this scholarship will assist you. Applications are available in the guidance office and must be returned to the guidance office by April 14.

Harrison County Farm Bureau: Deadline April 15, 2015. Graduating seniors who will attend a college in the state of Mississippi in the fall and whose parents are Harrison County Farm Bureau members are eligible to apply. Applications are available in guidance and may be mailed to Alberta McMullen at Harrison County Farm Bureau, P.O. Box 2009, Gulfport MS 39505.

Frigo Orthodontics Art on Display Scholarship: Deadline April 17, 2015. Seniors may create a piece of art for public viewing at Frigo Orthodontics and compete for one scholarship which will be awarded in May. Students can pick up an application packet in guidance or at Frigo Orthodontics. Students must adhere to the rules and regulations set forth by Frigo Orthodontics which includes a maximum size and “ready to display” condition. Artwork and applications are to be submitted directly to Frigo Orthodontics by the deadline.

Brittney Reese Scholarship: Deadline April 24, 2015. Seniors with a minimum 2.5 GPA, who are on free/reduced lunch, and who are involved in the school/community are eligible to apply. Student athletes are encouraged to apply but you do not need to be on a high school athletic team to be considered. Applications are available in guidance and must be accompanied by 2 letters of recommendation, an official transcript, and an essay on the requested topic. Applications are available in guidance and should be mailed to the address on the application when complete.

Keesler African-American Heritage Committee Col. Lawrence Roberts Scholarship: Deadline April 27, 2015. Applicants must be Mississippi Gulf Coast graduating high school seniors who are entering an accredited college or university in the summer or fall of 2015. This is a need-based scholarship based on ACT/SAT scores and overall academic performance. In addition to a list of required documents, students must write a 700 – 1000 word typed and double spaced (12 pitch font) essay on “A Century of Black Life, History, and Culture.” A letter of recommendation from a teacher or counselor must be submitted as well. Pick up an application in the guidance office and mail directly to Keesler. Documents should be mailed by April 27 to Keesler African American Heritage Committee, P.O. Box 5271, Keesler AFB, MS 39534.

The Mississippi Municipal League (MML) Scholarship: Deadline May 1, 2015. A general scholarship will be awarded to one graduating senior in the state of Mississippi, and two limited scholarships will be awarded to children or grandchildren of employees or elected officials of Mississippi municipalities. Students must submit an application and an essay on “Why I Should Consider a Career in Municipal Government. The essay must be 2,000 words or less. Applications are available in the guidance office and should be mailed to the following address: MML Scholarship, Mississippi Municipal League, 600 East Amite Street- Suite 104, Jackson, MS 39201.

Mississippi State University

Freshman Academic Scholarships are still available for student based on their GPAs and ACT scores. Students with above average GPAs, good ACT scores, and excellent leadership/service activities are eligible for scholarships ranging from $4,000 - $34,000 over four years.

University of Mississippi__________________________

Although competitive scholarship deadlines have passed, Ole Miss offers many different kinds of scholarships. Get on their website to learn more!!!!!

Academic excellence- these scholarships are based on GPA and ACT and begin with a 3.0 and a 24 on the ACT.

Financial need based scholarships- (Ole Miss Opportunity, Women’s Council, Ole Miss First Scholarship). These are based on your family’s income. FAFSA must be submitted by March 1 and must be received by March 15.

Military Science- Army ROTC scholarship- deadlines vary. E-mail armyrotc@olemiss.edu or call the Army ROTC Dept. at 662-915-7238

Other scholarships- Boys State/Girls State, Eagle Scout, Student Body President, Valedictorian/Salutatorian, etc. Deadline- confirmation before first term of enrollment.

University of Southern Mississippi________________

Academic Scholarships- (Academic Excellence, Golden Opportunity, etc.) These are offered based on your ACT and GPA. All you need to do to receive these is apply for general admission and be accepted. Scholarships start with a 24 on the ACT and 3.0 GPAs.

Other scholarships- National Merit, Eagle Scout, Star student and other scholarships are available. Visit usm.edu for more information.

Sigma Nu Fraternity at USM is offering the Dr. Joseph S. Paul Leadership Scholarship to male students who demonstrate leadership, service, academic achievement, and extracurricular involvement. Two $500 scholarships will be awarded. Apply on-line by June 1 at

Millsaps College: Visit millsaps.edu for information on applying, scholarships, & deadlines. Early Decision Admission Deadline is November 15. Early Action Admission Deadline is December 1. Regular Decision Admission Deadline is February 1. Need Based Financial Aid (FAFSA) Priority Date is March 1.

Delta State University

Visit deltastate.edu for scholarship information. Students must complete a scholarship application, along with the required essay and resume by the March 1 deadline for consideration.

University of South Alabama

Scholarship information is found online at southalabama.edu. There is no separate application required to receive scholarships. Your application for admission is all you need. Scholarship amounts vary depending on the student’s ACT score and overall GPA.

William Carey University

Academic scholarship amounts vary depending on the student’s ACT score and overall GPA. No separate scholarship application is needed. William Carey also offers countless talent scholarships for students involved in music, annual staff, speech and debate, and theatre. Most of these programs require you to set up an audition. Alcorn State University

Academic scholarships are based on a combination of the student’s GPA and ACT score. These scholarships are renewable each year as long as the student maintains a certain GPA. Service scholarships through band, athletics, music, and ROTC are also available. Students should contact these individual departments directly to inquire about scholarships. Jackson State University

Visit Jackson State’s website to request information on the different scholarships available. They vary from academic scholarships to athletic and music.

Mississippi College

Visit mc.edu for scholarship deadlines and details. Your application for admission serves as the scholarship application, so you are automatically considered based on ACT scores and GPA. Scholarships start for students with an 18 on the ACT. The highest award is valued at $10,000 each year for students with 29 or higher on the ACT, an outstanding academic record, a required essay and an interview. There are also stackable scholarships for everything from band and music participation to Christian ministry.

Belhaven College

Visit belhaven.edu for scholarship information and deadlines. Academic scholarships are based on a combination of ACT score and GPA. Belhaven offers many scholarships through their fine arts department. You must contact the individual department (dance, theater, etc.) to audition. Heritage Award

Students who have been admitted and who are planning to attend LSU in the fall may go to and apply under the Balanced Man Scholarship link. Students must be male, but do not have any obligation to join or affiliate with SigEp to be eligible for the scholarship. Deadline April 7th.

Senior Awards Program

Every year, Gulfport High School puts on a senior awards program in May where students are recognized for the scholarships they receive. PLEASE make a copy of ANY scholarship you receive (from a college, church, business, community group, etc.) and bring to Mrs. Briscoe in guidance. Only the seniors who submit scholarships they receive will be invited to this awards program. We would love to recognize you for your accomplishments, but we cannot do so if we don’t know what you have received (
