Extended Warm-up:

Read the following questions, and keep them in mind as we watch the video “No More Kings.” Use the information from the video to respond to the questions.

1. Up until the mid-1700s, Britain practiced a policy of “benign neglect” (leaving the day-to-day affairs of colonial government in the hands of the colonists). In the video, at what point does King George III decide to reestablish British control? Specifically, what did he want from the colonists?

2. What was the colonists’ main complaint against the King’s actions? Why did they think it was unfair?

Read the following questions, and keep them in mind as we watch the video “The Shot Heard ‘Round the World.” Use the information from the video to respond to the questions.

3. The “Shot heard ‘round the world” occurred at the Battle of Lexington. According to the video, where did the next battle occur? What was the outcome of this battle?

4. Using prior knowledge or you own opinion, why might the opening battles of the Revolution be referred to as the “Shot heard ‘round the world?”

Part 2: Greece, Rome, or Home challenge. With a partner, look at the six images below.
