World Bank E-library

Getting started

• Go to the OxLIP+ page, linked from SOLO

• Click on the link for OxLIP+

• In the search box, marked Find database, search for

World Bank e-Library

• From the first screen, you can see the World Bank’s Featured titles, and scroll down to the bottom to browse the publications by region. You can also do a quick cross-search of all content, from the top right corner. In this case, click on Advanced search (the link below this), for a more controlled search of the specific publications you are interested in. (Note the Search tips option here, too, to help you search effectively.

• You can fill in the search form with the information that interests you, or use the example: Cambodia poverty. If you type these words in the abstract box, you will find any publications that mention both poverty and the country you are interested in, in the abstract. This ensures that both topics are central to the publication. Click on submit

• You should now see a list of results. Click on one of the hyperlinks, to view the abstract and then the full text. For example: click on A Poverty Profile of Cambodia.

• This opens the full-text PDF. You can search the PDF for references to particular words or phrases. For example, you are interested in expenditure, so click on the search icon at the top of the PDF (icon of binoculars) and type “expenditure” in the search box. This will find all examples of this word in the document, and you can move between them, by clicking on the hyperlinks on the right.

• You can also select and highlight text, to copy and paste into another document (referencing it as you go, of course!). To do this, click on the select button at the top of the PDF, and highlight the text you would like to copy. You can then use keyboard shortcuts, ctrl c then ctrl v, or right click, to paste it into another document.

• Finally, you can choose to save, print, or email the document to yourself, using the icons on the top left of the screen.
