Baltimore City Public Schools

April 17, 2020 Dear Mosher Elementary School Community,On February 25, I sent you a letter to share that I would be recommending that the Board of School Commissioners approve a change in the timeline for the grade reconfiguration of Calverton so that the school would begin serving students only in grades 3 - 8 starting next school year, in fall 2020. If approved students in grades kindergarten – 2 would be rezoned to James Mosher Elementary School. I shared that recommendation at that meeting. In that letter I shared that there would be a community meeting held at Calverton on March 12 and that the Board would vote on March 24, 2020.Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, this vote has been rescheduled to ensure there is opportunity for you to provide input into this process. The revised date is Wednesday, April 29*, 2020. If schools are still closed on this date, the meeting will be held virtually and will be accessible to view on the City Schools website: . All Board meetings begin at 5:00 p.m.As a member of the Mosher community, your feedback on this recommendation is critical. Apresentation is available for viewing on the City Schools website where you can learn more and get answers to your questions. You can submit written feedback to the Board until 5 p.m. on Friday, April 24 by emailing: PortfolioRecommendations@bcps.k12.md.us or via mail to: Baltimore City Board of School Commissioners, 200 E. North Ave., Room 406, Baltimore, Maryland 21202. Questions for staff can be sent to: AnnualPortfolioReviewQuestions@bcps.k12.md.us.? If approved, starting in August 2020, kindergarten through second grade students would attend James Mosher Elementary School in its swing location in the Garrison Building for one year, and then move into the renovated James Mosher building when it opens in fall 2021. Calverton Elementary/Middle School is scheduled to return to its renovated building at the same time, fall 2021.Finally, while not related to this recommendation, it is important that you know we received a letter of intent from an organization seeking to convert both Calverton Elementary/Middle School and James Mosher Elementary School into conversion charter schools. Due to COVID 19 changes to engagement, the charter application process is currently postponed. Please check the district website for updates on that process. If the application is approved, this would not change the enrollment process for the schools. Conversion charter schools continue to serve their zones and students living in the zone enroll in the same way as neighborhood schools. Check the website for ways to engage in that process.Thank you for supporting our schools and students. We look forward to working in partnership with students, families, and school communities to create a district of high-quality school programs that meets the needs of every student in Baltimore.Sincerely,Dr. Sonja Brookins SantelisesChief Executive Officer*A previous version of this letter indicated the date of the Board meeting was Tuesday, April 28. Due to April 28 being a primary election day, this Board meeting will be held Wednesday, April 29. ................
