EXT. SIDEWALK – NIGHT

DIT, DIT, DIT, DIT. A young BOY runs a RED STICK along a wooden fence. Occasionally, a street lamp will illuminate the sidewalk, but the Boy’s face in never visible.

DIT, DIT, DIT, DIT. He reaches a young GIRL, sitting down against a fence. Only her legs are visible, thanks to the street lamp. He stops. He says something to the girl. Nothing comes out of his mouth. We cannot hear him. He runs his stick up the fence again. We can hear THAT, but not his voice.

STATIC:

Blank static. White noise.

INT. CHURCH – DAY

Many people fill the pews. Decorated glass windows. A coffin in front of the PREIST’s lectern. The Priest talks calmly at the crowd, but we cannot hear him. A WOMAN is crying loudly and sniffing-we can her.

Something red is noticeable at the doors for the church. It sits, not moving. It begins to approach. It is revealed to be a red CAP. It slides along the floor. People jump out of the pews and stomp on it.

The crying Woman screams when she sees it. A MAN steps out and pours hot water from a plastic cup onto it. It melts into a red liquid, and, like blood, leaks down to the coffin.

The Priest is still talking, unheard; the melted cap hits the coffin. The wooden coffin begins to disintegrate, and it begins to just fade away.

A GOAT CARCASS lies where the coffin once was. It ribs are visible, it’s skin is blotchy and rotted.

EXT. ALLEYWAY - DAY

A scraggly dressed MAN, with a tangled beard sits against a cement wall with a small, red, lighter. He places the lighter under small pocket KNIFE, in his other hand. Her lights it, and, in a flash, the knife is alight. He stares at the knife, as if he has never seen fire before.

A rat scuttles across the alleyway. A thin smile whips across his face.

EXT. ALLEYWAY – NIGHT

The rat lies, dead, on the cement ground, on fire, with the knife in it.

CLOSEUP: THE FIRE

Occasionally the fire flickers red. When it does, the whole screen goes red.
