Remember that the theme of Luke 1 is: 1) That nothing is impossible with God; 2) God’s will is always perfect; and 3) So is God’s timing!

Due to character and lineage, Zacharias and Elizabeth have been chosen to parent John the Baptist, the forerunner of Christ. Verses 6 & 7 describes this lovely couple, but what can be said about you?

Why is character important? The latter half of Matthew 12:34 (KJV) says, “… for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.” It is usually during times of difficulty, discouragement, and disappointment that we see what we are truly made of, how great God is in us. Do you believe in miracles? Elizabeth and Zacharias could have easily given up on God in a truly Hebrew society that valued children along with riches. Instead, they burned the “midnight oil” day and night, trusting and obeying God with their life. Such loyalty and devotion kept the both of them blameless, which parallel perfection, giving undying love to a God who never failed them and provided them with laws. Remember as with our lessons with Sarah, when God responds, do it quickly! If the Lord says, “Yes”, it’s done! Just act quickly to what the Holy Spirit is saying. Sometimes trouble has to come our way before we act out on faith. For Zacharias, he became “dumb”. Sure Elizabeth and Zacharias had problems, as do other people, yet they were blameless! Their spirits afire, this couple allowed God to be their focus, enabling others to see their example and do the same! What, may I ask, are you doing, consciously or unconsciously, to be an example for God? What exactly have you hid in your heart?

ho·ly - adj \ˈhō-lē\ - 1) : exalted or worthy of complete devotion as one perfect in goodness and righteousness 2) : divine [Source: Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary]

In terms of being consecrated to God, we should be more careful, more thoughtful about our speech, thoughts, and actions. If we are not consecrated, be prepared to keep in prayer, worship, obedience, and service!

I am sure that like Zacharias, to be “chastised” is an area that can be difficult for everyone. Why? Usually when you are chastised, you are “put on the spot”, with all eyes on you as their focus. Whenever it is something positive, it is a good thing; however, if it will cause reproach like Elizabeth or Zacharias, it can be overwhelming!

Conception: When God blesses us with something (or someone!) that go beyond our everyday way of thinking, WE MUST TRUST GOD! DO NOT lack the faith you have, allowing Satan the opportunity to delay or miss your blessing! Don’t stop praying! He’ll, God, will answer you. And when God delivers answered prayer, remain humble enough to give God all praise and glory!
