Adult Wellness ProgramsAdult Fitness “Open Gym Hours”: This is an “open hours” time for our adult clients to come in and use the exercise equipment in the sanctuary at the Wellness Center. Clients can choose from a large selection of equipment including; treadmills, row machine, stepper machines, elliptical machines, universal weight machines and stationary bikes. There are also a variety of yoga balls with descriptive exercises, medicine balls, jump ropes, and a walking area in which 28 laps =1 mile. Open Gym Hours are Monday-Friday from 11:00am-2:00pm at the Wellness Center. Program Supervisor: Aaron Wilburn Referral Process: By referral onlySit and Be FitSit and Be Fit is an exercise group composed of chair exercises and walking aimed at our adult clients who have difficulty moving, walking, getting in/out of a chair, or getting up from the floor due to their weight or physical limitations. Anne Parker facilitates this group and with her knowledge as a RN and personal trainer; she can push clients to achieve their fitness goals at a reasonable pace. Sit and Be Fit is held Mondays and Thursdays from 11:30-12pm at the Wellness Center.Program Supervisor: Anne Parker Referral Process: By referral onlyAdult Tai Chi:If you're looking for a way to reduce stress, consider Tai Chi (TIE-CHEE). Originally developed for self-defense, Tai Chi has evolved into a graceful form of exercise that's now used for stress reduction and a variety of other health conditions. Often described as meditation in motion, Tai Chi promotes serenity through gentle, flowing movements.Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese tradition that, today, is practiced as a graceful form of exercise. It involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing. Tai Chi, also called Tai Chi Chuan, is a noncompetitive, self-paced system of gentle physical exercise and stretching. Each posture flows into the next without pause, ensuring that your body is in constant motion. Class is held every Tuesday from 2:00-3:00pm at the Wellness Center.Program Supervisor: Aaron Wilburn Referral Process: By referral only Adult Zumba:For those who have never heard of Zumba, Zumba is a Latin-inspired, dance fitness class that incorporates Latin and international music and dance movements.? The class combines fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body using an aerobic/fitness approach to achieve a unique blended balance of cardio and muscle toning benefits.? Zumba integrates some of the basic principles of aerobic, interval, and resistance training to maximize caloric output, cardiovascular benefits, and total body toning. Classes take place at the Wellness Center on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 12:00-1:00pm. This group is perfect for clients looking to burn calories, lose weight, and feel abmazing! Classes take place at the Wellness Center on Thursdays from 1:00-1:30pm. Program Supervisor: Anne ParkerReferral Process: By referral onlyMall and Museum Walks (Seasonal/November-April): Group members have the opportunity to socialize and discuss shared therapeutic issues and interests while getting a moderate aerobic workout.? The group visits not only the Toledo Museum of Art but also Westfield Shopping Center, which offers a variety of settings and a chance for some clients to visit recreational areas they may otherwise not have access to.? The group is designed to accommodate clients of varying physical abilities as much as possible, but interested clients will need to be able to independently walk at least 1-2 miles to benefit most from the walks.? The group meets every other Friday, leaving from either Nebraska or Central at 9:45am and returning by noon.?Mall and Museum Walks begin in November and will run through April.Program Supervisors: Steve Colon (NEB) and Lindsay Douglas(CEN) Referral Process: By referral onlyZoo and Park Walks (NEB and CEN - Seasonal/May-October): Group members have the opportunity to socialize and discuss shared therapeutic issues and interests while getting a moderate aerobic workout.? The group visits not only the Toledo Zoo but also the various Toledo Metro parks, which offers a variety of settings and a chance for some clients to visit recreational areas they may otherwise not have access to.? Zoo and Park Walks begin in May and will run through October.Program Supervisors: Steve Colon (NEB) and Lindsay Douglas (CEN) Referral Process: By referral onlySIMPLE - Simplified Intervention to Modify Physical Activity, Lifestyle, and Eating Behavior (Evidence-Based Program):SIMPLE is a lifestyle program focused broadly on nutrition and physical activity that consists of 1.5 hour group sessions held weekly over a 16-week period. The program places emphasis on providing weight-loss support and teaching healthy eating habits including important skills such as shopping, label-reading, food preparation, and portion-control. This program also involves the importance of physical activity with physical activity done most weeks for 20 minutes. Class is every Monday from 1:00-2:30pm at the Wellness Center. Program Supervisor: Regina Masters Referral Process: By referral onlyAdult Community Gardening Program (Seasonal/May-September):Clients will utilize a variety of gardening spaces and plots, located at The Youth Zone Garden at our Woodruff Ave Zepf location. Clients with physical limitations will have access to raised gardening beds. Clients will receive orientation and education on how to plant and take care of their crops and will be provided with all necessary materials to do so. Group Facilitators will assist clients with all gardening activities and will educate clients on how to establish achievable nutritional goals. The gardening group will discuss ways their fruits and vegetables and other healthy foods, can create a healthier diet. Clients will enjoy a variety of fun activities designed by and administered by youth coordinator Malcolm Cunningham. Goals for this group include: Increase positive coping skills, Increase social interaction with others, Enhance feelings of well-being, Increase self-esteem, Enhance knowledge of good nutrition, Increase physical mobility, Increase knowledge of gardening skills. Learn the basics of crocheting, bring your own skills to share, and develop new ones. You may even bring your own project if you are already working on one! Crochet Group meets every Tuesday from 1:00-3:00pm at Central.Program Supervisor: Jeanette Felker Referral Process: By referral onlyCoping with Emotions (Central):The Coping with Emotions Group is a weekly group that meets to discuss various methods and ways to deal with daily stressors and triggers, as well as identify emotions and learn how to express them in healthy ways. A new topic is discussed in an open forum environment and clients are encouraged to share their ideas, support and positive feedback with each other to learn new coping skills that will help them cope with their emotions in difficult situations. Groups are held at Central on Tuesdays from 10:00-11:00am & 1:00-2:30pm. Program Supervisor: Melissa Owens Referral Process: By referral onlyArtistically Visualizing Recovery (Central):Artistically Visualizing Recovery focuses on each individual’s unique experience with mental health issues by taking an artistic approach to expressing emotions, discovering new and creative ways of coping and finding ways to visualize what recovery means to each person. In this group consumers are exposed to many different types of art forms and encouraged to develop their own unique form of visual expression and symbolic communication. Classes are held on Wednesdays from 10:00am-12:00pm and 1:00-3:00pm and Thursdays: Open Art Studio from 1:00-3:00pm. Come as you are! The group is an open forum discussion on topics such as: “Coming out,” Discrimination, LGBT community resources, and more. Clients are encouraged to utilize the safe environment to learn more about their identity with others who provide support and encouragement. Group meets once a month – on the 4th Wednesday of every month at the Nebraska Location.
