Pastoral Care Programs

Rides Coordinator Needed

Pat Brinkman, the current Rides Coordinator, will be moving to Connecticut in July. The Pastoral Care Council is thankful for Pat's devotion to the job and wishes her success in her new home.

The job of the Rides Coordinator is to match parishioners who need a ride to appointments or to church activities. The Ride Coordinator calls or emails the Rides Providers to find a match. This is another way that Pastoral Care provides assistance to our First Parish Community. A volunteer is needed. For more information about the position, contact Judy Dembsey at judydembsey@.

First Tuesday Group "Adjusting to the `New Normal'" May 7, from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m., Parish Hall

This month's program will discuss life events that are so big they require adjusting to a "New Normal." Examples include retirement (last month's topic), to the loss of a partner, a changed medical status, or the advent of a grandchild. A panel of Bill Fry, Berni Jenkins, Dick Shohet, and Dana Snyder-Grant will be followed by small group discussions where participants may discuss their own personal "new normal." Come learn how others have successfully adjusted to a "new normal." For more information, contact Virginia Taylor at virginiarosstaylor@ or 978-263-9777. First Tuesday Group has a senior focus but all are welcome.

Thank You Luncheon ? Follow Up

Thirty parishioners who volunteered in some way in the Pastoral Care program for the past year were thanked for their participation at a luncheon on Sunday, April 7, in the Emerson Room. Mary Ann Barton read a poem, Judy Dembsey thanked the volunteers, and Rev. Marion Visel spoke about the Council's mission this year to broaden Pastoral Care's outreach to the First Parish community. The food was delicious and a good time was had by all.

The Holden Fund

The Holden Fund of First Parish was established in 1901 when Ellen Emerson contributed $3,500 [over $103K today] in honor of Nancy Holden for "daughters taking care of mothers in straitened circumstances." Those original instructions have been interpreted more liberally since then to support residents of Concord who require care so they can continue to live in their own homes. Monthly stipends of varying amounts based upon need are awarded to help support caregivers (family members or paid professionals).
