ABC’s of The Periodic Table
In order to learn the structure and design of the periodic table, you will create an ABC book of elements of the periodic table.
Your ABC book must include
• A minimum of 15 elements from the periodic table
• At least 1 from each of the following families:
o Alkali Metals (p. 572)
o Alkaline Earth Metals (p. 573)
o Transition Metals (p. 574-575)
o Lanthanides (p. 576)
o Actanides (p. 576)
o Carbon Family (p. 585)
o Nitrogen Family (p. 587)
o Oxygen Family (p. 588)
o Halogen Family (p. 580)
o Noble Gases (p. 582)
o Hydrogen! (p. 579)
• At least one Solid, Liquid and Gas (see pg. 518-519)
• At least one Metalloid (see pg. 518-519)
• A colorful, creative cover
• Your book must be in ALPHABETICAL ORDER, based either on the elements name or symbol. (Example: Au is for GOLD or G is for GOLD)
• You can do more than one element in a category if you choose and 1 element can count for two categories. Example: gold – solid and transition metal. BUT – you must still have a minimum of 15 pages/elements.
• You must turn in a rubric with the letter of the alphabet and element symbol completed in order for your project to be graded. Projects will not be graded until the rubric is filled out, resulting in a loss of points for each day late.
Each page must include:
• Element Symbol
• Element’s Name
• Atomic Mass (round to the nearest hundredth 0.01)
• Atomic Number
• Category (family, state, etc.)
• Picture/Illustration
• Common use for the element
No two books can be the same!!!! 50 points possible.
