Students will enroll in an actual three-week personal finance course and earn three hours of college credit. Each day will begin with an opening session where students will hear from invited speakers and end with a closing session where students can ask questions about the course material and receive one-on-one tutoring. Each day will include four, 45-minute instructional blocks and a 90-minute lunch break. Cost includes UAB tuition, textbooks, supplies and lunch each day. The three weeks will be broken down as follows:Week One: Money Management 101This week, students will learn to create and monitor a budget, prepare their own taxes, manage basic bank accounts and make informed decisions regarding major purchases.Week Two: Debt Management 101This week, students will learn how to protect their assets through the wise use of credit. Students will learn the factors that affect credit scores, such as fraud and identity theft. Week Three: Saving and Investing 101This week, students will be introduced to personal saving and investing. The course will begin by describing investment planning as a process by which individuals match investment vehicles to pre-determined goals. This form must be returned with the camp application in ordered to be processed.I will arrive and remain at camp with a positive attitude, open to meeting new people and trying new activities.I will work with my counselors and fellow students towards creating an environment that is safe and welcoming for each of us.I understand that doing intentional harm or bullying another student, either physically or emotionally is grounds for dismissal from camp.I understand that although I may be able to solve some conflicts on my own, the counselors are always ready to listen and assist if there is a problem. I understand that my counselors and all of the camp staff need and want to help but can only do so if I am willing to share any concerns that I have with them.I will remain with my counselor and partake in the activities of my session as required.I will use appropriate language and understand that the use of excessive, deliberate, profane language will not be accepted.I will leave my cell phone and other electronic devices at home. The first infraction of the behavior agreement will result in a verbal warning between staff and student(s). The second infraction will result in a time-out/loss of privilege and notification of the parent at the end of the camp day. A third infraction will result in a conference between the student(s), parent(s), Camp Director, and the Director of the Regions Institute for Financial Education (if needed). This third infraction can result in the removal from the camp program.Refunds are not given for any student who is sent home/removed from the program for disciplinary reasons.A zero tolerance policy is enforced in regards to Physical Aggression. Any student who commits an act of physical aggression against another student, staff member, or anyone else will be removed from camp. As a parent, you will be responsible for picking-up your student within one hour of the decision to dismiss your child from camp.
