Stewardship

Today's readings paint a somewhat frightening picture of the end of time. But the Gospel ends with the assurance to faithful stewards that those who persevere will be saved.

Seasons Greetings from the Steuben County Rural Ministry and Turning Point Hornell. We are looking for a few donations to help us create baskets for families in need this holiday season. We are collecting thanksgiving meal items (potatoes/yams, stuffing, gravy, cranberry

sauce, and canned vegetables). These items will be used to make thanksgiving baskets for families to help them celebrate the holiday season. We are trying to help uphold the legacy and mission of Sister Susan Cain and would like to bring as much joy as we can to the

families in the surrounding area. Thank you so much for your consideration and

hopefully for your help in this endeavor. Monetary donations are accepted as well, and all donations may be delivered to Turning point in Hornell, located at 20 Elm Street in suite 2. If you have any questions, you can call

Turning point at (607)324-3457. Thank you again! Sincerely,

Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick at Mass On Sunday November 17th

Father Stan will be offering the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick following the 7 AM Mass. This Sacrament will be offered at various Masses in our parish again in subsequent months. The 1972 ritual indicates that this Sacrament is for "Christians whose health is seriously impaired by sickness or old age" "In the case of a person who is chronically ill, or elderly and in a weakened condition, the Sacrament of Anointing may be repeated when in the pastoral judgment of the priest the condition of the sick person warrants the repetition of the sacrament." People of all ages, including children, who suffer from a serious illness or are facing major surgery can be anointed.

A Sunday Gospel Reflections

November 17th. ? Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time Luke 21:5-19 Gospel Summary It is clear from this passage in Luke's Gospel that when the world ends, some terrifying events will occur. The clear message, however, is that we should not face these events with apprehension, but rather with trust -- trust that God wants us to have everlasting life with him. Instead of being afraid, we are called to find strength and courage in God's love and persevere in our faith. Reflection for Families Today's Gospel makes it clear that we should persevere in our faith and be faithful disciples. We are most responsible for evangelizing our own children. There is an expression, "Faith is caught, not taught." How do our children see us live out our faith? How do we witness the greatness of God's love and our personal response to that love? Share with your child (ren) what it means for you to walk with Jesus. Bringing the Gospel into Your Family Find a copy of Thunder Cake by Patricia Polacco at the library or Owl Babies by Martin Waddell. Read the book as a family and talk about who was there when someone was afraid. Ask one another who helps us when we're afraid? The answers may be predictable or you might be surprised. In either case, it's good to remind one another that Jesus is always with us . . . especially when we are afraid. Discussion Starters Once I was really afraid, but I found comfort when . . . The most challenging part of my witnessing for Jesus was when . . . My faith is strongest when . . .
