Kerry Wood to Release Children's Book

Portion of the proceeds to benefit the Wood Family Foundation

Chicago Cub and Wood Family Foundation President, Kerry Wood is scheduled to release his first children's book All You Can Be: Learning & Growing Through Sports this June.

All You Can Be: Learning & Growing Through Sports is a book for any young dreamer who wants to develop the character to succeed, whether it's working towards becoming the next president of the United States, the best teacher in the country.... or even a pitcher for the Chicago Cubs. Wood provides advice for every youthful go-getter. Sharing his own highs and lows, both on and off the baseball field, he also stresses the importance of family and friends, the positive power of laughter and why it is so important to always do the right thing.

In All You Can Be: Learning & Growing Through Sports, Wood shares the valuable principles he learned growing up that were instrumental to his current success in the big leagues, including: the importance of education; always working hard to attain goals; building character; maintaining integrity; accepting responsibility. Kerry explains how he learned each lesson and was able to evolve and grow through every experience both good and bad.

7th Annual Kerry Wood's Strike Zone Event

Kerry and Sarah are preparing for their signature celebrity bowling event, which will take place on Wednesday, June 27th at 10pin Bowling Lounge. Strike Zone is the Wood Family Foundation's biggest fundraiser and allows us to really make an impact on the children we support throughout the city. One way to get involved is to bid on amazing auction items in our ONLINE silent auction that begins May 30th. Some signature items include: Go fishing with Woody on a 38ft charter boat; Own a one-of-a-kind Cubs themed Golf Cart autographed by the entire 2012 team. Neiman Marcus "Art of Fashion" Breakfast and Fashion Show a great success

On Thursday, May 3rd, Sarah Wood joined Kirstie Lytwynec, VP of Neiman Marcus Northbrook, in co-hosting the "Art of Fashion" breakfast and fashion show with special guest, jewelry designer Lana Bramlette.

Those in attendance included Cubs wives and Neiman Marcus Northbrook customers. "Art of Fashion" raised approximately $10K for the Wood Family Foundation.

Lurie's Children's Hospital of Chicago Names Playroom in Honor of Wood Family Foundation

playroom on the oncology floor in

the new Ann & Robert H. Lurie

Children's Hospital of Chicago that

is scheduled to open June 9, 2012

in downtown Chicago. Kerry &

Sarah hosted a private cocktail reception to celebrate the new room which features a toy kitchen,

a Thomas the Train set, puzzles, toys, games and a mural by Natalie Gerny. Children's

Memorial Foundation President, Tom Sullivan, welcomed everyone and unveiled the

Wood Family Foundation placard outside the door just before Kerry and Sarah cut the

official ribbon. Thank you to all of our supporters over the years. This playroom

happened because of your continued support!

Phillips Chevrolet Signing in Frankfort

On Saturday, May 5th Kerry Wood stopped into the Phillips Chevrolet in Frankfort to sign autographs and meet with his fans. Thank you to all who came out in support! Kerry always appreciates the generous support towards the Foundation!

Upcoming Programs

WFF School Supply Drive

This summer, the Wood Family Foundation is participating in two Back to School events. Our first will be HopeFest on Saturday, June 28th in Humboldt Park. HopeFest reaches over 15,000 families and provides resources and services to help these families prepare for the new school year. Our second will be the Safe Haven Back to School Rally in Englewood on Friday, August 3rd. Over 3,500 CPS students attend this event and it's a day filled of fun to celebrate the return of the school year. With your help, we hope to distribute new backpacks filled with school supplies to over 10,000 students in need at these events! Please visit our School Supplies webpage where you can register for our fundraiser, make a single donation, start or join a team to raise funds together, set a goal to raise funds as a team or through your network of friends and family. Wood Family Foundation (WFF) is a non-profit 501c3 organization that was founded in June 2011 by Chicago Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood and his wife Sarah. The WFF works to improve the lives of children in and around Chicago by raising funds and awareness for its children's programs and other children's charities they support. The WFF acts as an advocate for children in the Chicago community, inspiring others to join them in their mission of giving children the resources they need to succeed.
