To be Submitted to ENSY 2001

Myung-whan Bae* and Tae-yong Ha**

Abstract

This document provides general information, guidelines and specifications to assist the authors in writing, preparing and submitting a technical paper to ENSY BUSAN 2001.

The paper must be typewritten in English and should not exceed 8 pages (A4 paper). The elements of the paper are listed in the order in which they should appear as follows: title, author names and affiliations, abstract, key words, nomenclature, body of the paper (text) including figures and tables, acknowledgements, references and appendices.

Please bear in mind that the paper is normally printed in black and white by a photo offset method in the size of 100%, and it must be submitted camera ready in clear, sharp and best available quality, including figures and tables in position and correctly sized.

If you follow this guide including page format templates, the typeface, style and basic layout of your paper should look like this document.

The papers accepted by the organizing committee, ENSY BUSAN 2001, will be published in the proceedings

Please be sure that submission of a paper selected for publication by ENSY BUSAN 2001 implies that one of the authors is required to make a presentation and all the authors attending the Symposium are also required to register and pay the registration fee

2. Paper Length

Author-prepared papers should be typewritten in English and should not exceed 8 pages, including all tables and figures.

In the case of the paper beyond 8 pages, an excess page charge will be assigned in view of equality of presentation.

3. Typing and Formating

This is a guide how to prepare your paper on sheets of 210 x 297 mm white paper (A4 paper) using a computer, word-processor or page-layout program, and a laser printer.

If you do not have access to the state-of–the art computer technology, please try to make the appearance and the quality of the paper as close as possible.

If you are using the other paper than A4, prepare your paper per the size specifications provided. Begin at the top and at the left allowing bottom and right hand side margins differently.

The typing of your paper should fit in the spaces shown by boxes on the cover page template and in the two columns on the succeeding page template provided in this guide. It may be prepared by using a more manual method, such as cutting the text typed on other paper and pasting it onto the sheet with use of adhesives. All photographs and figures should be properly sized to fit the dimensions of the text page and may be manually prepared as well as in the case of text.

All of the text are to be typed in 9 points size with a single line space without any specifications. The first line of each paragraph should be indented by three strokes from the left margin.

4. Organization of the Paper

The papers are organized in the following order: title, author names and affiliations, abstract, key words, nomenclature (if need), introduction, main body of the paper (text) including figures and tables, conclusions, acknowledgement, references and appendices.

4.1 Title

The title should be concise and definitive with key words appropriate for retrieval purposes. It should fit in the first space shown by a box spanning two columns on the cover page template. It should be in 13 pt. boldface, upper and lower case letters, and centered.

4.2 Author names and affiliations

The author name should consist of first name, middle initial, and last name. It should fit in the second space under the title.

It should be 10 pt. boldface, and centered, and upper and lower case letters for the first name and the last name.

If there are multiple authors, the first author is to imply corresponding author within the limits of the possibility.

Put asterisks to the shoulder of the name of each author indicating the affiliation. The affiliations should appear at the bottom of the left column of the cover page. They should be 9 pt, upper and lower case letters, flush left with the left margin, and should be preceded by a thin line across the column. There should be one line space between the line and the main text. The first author affiliation should consist of organization, department, postal address, TEL and FAX numbers, and E-mail address. The co-author’s should be accompanied with organizations only.

4.3 Abstract

Abstract is to give a clear indication of the objective, scope, and results of the paper and is to be 200 words maximum. It should be placed in the third space under the author names. All of the text should be centered within the width.

4.4 Key words

Key words should be provided in the second space under the abstract for indexing, abstracting and retrieval purposes, preferably be more than five key words.

4.5 Nomenclature

The nomenclature list, if included, should before the introduction. It should be in alphabetical order, followed by any Greek symbol. Subscripts are listed last and are identified with headings. Symbols that cannot be typed are to be written in black ink

If a nomenclature list is not included, the symbols should be defined the first time they are used in the paper

4.6 Main text

The text is to be typed in 9 points size with a single line space. The first line of each paragraph should be indented by three strokes from the left margin.

4.6.1 Introduction

The introduction should define clearly the nature of the problem being considered. Reference should be made to previously published pertinent papers, accenting the major original contributions.

4.6.2 Use of SI units

SI (Metric) units of measurement are to be used in all papers. If other units are used, the SI equivalent units should follow them in parentheses or be listed in a supplementary table.

4.6.3 Headings

Major headings should be typed in 11 points boldface, centered and capitalized the initial letter of the first word. Those from the introduction to the conclusions should be numbered consecutively, the numbers are followed by a period, a space and its text.

Subheadings should be typed in 10 points boldface and the initial letter of the first word in the text should be capitalized. The subheading text should be indented by three strokes from the left-hand margin. Their subordinate numbers should also be numbered consecutively and follow the period of the major heading number and be followed by a space and the subheading text. One line of space is left above the subheadings.

Sub-subheadings are typed in a similar way of the subheading with the exception that the text letter is sized in 9 points boldface.

4.6.4 Equations

All mathematical formulae must be typed or neatly printed in black ink and be indented by five strokes from the left-hand margin. They should be numbered consecutively, and the numbers are enclosed in parentheses and positioned flush right as shown in the following equation (1). One line of space is left above and below the equation. When referring to an equation in the text, type “Eq. (1)”.

a + b + c = b + a + c (1)

4.7 Tables and figures

All tables and figures (graphs, line drawings, photographs, etc.) should be numbered consecutively like “Table 1”, and “Fig. 1”. They should have a caption consisting of the table or figure number and a brief title or description of the table or figure. The caption should be centered above the table or below the figure. The initial letter of the first word in the title or sentence of tables and figures should be capitalized t.

Tables and figures can be positioned within the body of your paper or together at the end of the paper. If they are placed within the text, it is preferable to position them at the top or bottom of the page and there should be a minimum of one line space between the figure caption and the text.

All tables and figures should be properly sized to fit at the top of one column or to fit across the top of the page(span two columns) and be in position on the paper for printing.

If possible, scan all tables and figures into your paper. If not, paste in them upon completion of your paper, using adhesives. Do not use tape.

Be sure that all figures are normally printed in black and white. If you prefer to print them in four-color and are willing to incur an additional printing charge, please contact the secretariat of the organizing committee, ENSY BUSAN 2001 for more information.

4.8 References

In the text, references should be cited by giving a number in parentheses: as an illustration, “ It is found that the maximum collector efficiency of stretched-membrane concentrator is approximately 3 – 7% lower than that of the monolithic type (1).” “The available information indicates that sunflower, soybean and rapeseed oil look to be the most promising among the vegetable oils reviewed(2).” References to original sources for cited material should be listed together at the end of the paper in the order of appearance. In particular, all authors of the reference should be listed. That is, you should not be used the word as et al.
