Tips for Taking Photos in Nature:

. 5 Tips for Taking Photos in Nature: Activity 1

.

.

. 1. Fill the frame with a subject. Don’t let distracting backgrounds take away from your photo.

.

. 2. Shoot vertical images of vertical subjects. Some things are meant to be photographed vertically (up and down). Check to see if your subject looks better as a vertical photo.

.

.

. 3. Use the rule of thirds. Imagine the photo is broken up into a tic tac toe grid. Try placing your subject where the lines of the grid would meet. You don’t always have to put the subject in the center of the frame.

.

. 4. Shoot from a very low or very high position. The subject will stand out in bold relief, against blue sky or water, for example.

. 5. Move the subject to a better location, if practical, with a neutral or more distant background. Otherwise, walk around, exploring the subject from a variety of viewpoints, until you find one with a cleaner backdrop. In close-up nature photography, a cluttered background can be very distracting.
