-8826514541500Hello everyone! It’s Mia Butterly’s birthday this week! Mia will turn 5 and I wish her the biggest, happiest birthday. 238569570993000Also, I want to congratulate Katelyn Connor and Cormac Doyle for learning to ride their bikes without stabilisers! I love hearing all the good news so please send along pictures/news to st.colmcilles1@ and I can post it on the website. I hope everyone is keeping well and that the work I am setting for the Junior Infants is both educational and fun. I will continue to refer to the use of sensory activities for learning each day and you can refer back to these in any of the previous weeks work. Also, keep an eye on the Wrens/EIC page as they put up lovely activities/games to develop fine/gross skills which in turn help with pencil grip and hand-eye co-ordination. EverydayGaeilge: The phrases for this week are:Cén sort éadaí atá ort? What clothes are you wearing? Tá _________ orm. I’m wearing __________.An item of clothing should be put into the blank space. Just as a suggestion, you could practise this in the morning when your child gets dressed and integrate it into the morning conversation. Here is a list of clothes you can use: t-léine=t-shirt, geansaí=jumper, sciorta=skirt, stocaí=socks, hata=hat, gúna=dress, bríste=trousers, bróga=shoes.1460551181000Literacy: The letter for this week is ‘x’. So ‘x’ is the name and ‘ccsss’ is the sound. Here is a picture with words that have ‘x’ in them. See if your child can find the words that have the ‘x’ sound in them. (Exit, x-ray, box, next, six). This video link is the same channel as previous weeks. I like that is does a letter recap on all letters which we normally do daily in the classroom. It continues on to focus on the letter ‘x’. It covers letter formation so you can pause the video to allow your child follow along/practise with their pencils or sensory resources. The character moves onto naming things that have an ‘x’ in them, and then tells an ‘x’ story. This video can be watched daily. , another way to revise letters could be to play the letter board game that I sent home. Allow your child to use/do one of the sensory activities above to practise the new letter. It is so important that your child starts the letter in the correct place and forms the letter correctly and if you ask your child to hold their pencil in the ‘froggie legs’ grip they will understand what you mean.Word Wallet: This week we are going to focus on our words. From talking to some of the parents this week, I have heard about some very creative games for revising the sight words from the word wallets. One parent has stuck the words on a wall and is getting their child to shoot nerf bullets at the words and to read whatever word it hits, takes it down and aim at another word. You could throw a soft ball either if a nerf gun is unavailable. Reading: We are onto the third story of our class reader called Magic. Fun at the Park Click the link and tick boxes, Primary, Junior Infants, English, Rainbow-Stage 1 and the book should appear in the list below. Focus on reading 2/3 pages a day. You can check your child’s word recognition by picking out random words in the text and also trying to read sentences backwards for fun.ONLY IF YOU WANT, you can continue using the oxford readers online but the main reading this week should be with Fun at the Park. The Oxford Owl account for the class is easy to access. Go to the website oxfordowl.co.uk and click on the tab My class login at the top of the page. The class name is: Team tullydonnell. The class password is: JuniorInfants. (capital J and I, all one word). Click on the tab My Bookshelf and enter in ages 4-5 and series Oxford Reading Tree. Furthermore, I am aware that some families do not have reliable internet access and so are unable to depend on the above resources for reading. Thank you for this feedback. The following are links to sites where you can download books onto your laptop/device and will be able to access it offline once it is downloaded. Twinkl has free access at the moment. Search for ebooks and refine the list to Junior/Senior Infants. Titles like The Cautious Caterpillar will appear that include colourful illustrations. Try to download books that only have one or two sentences per page. 439610526352500FreeKidsBooks This link will bring you to a page of books that are suitable for Junior Infants. Again try to download titles that have one or two sentences per page.I will research more sites that are suitable from which to download books for next week.We Are Writers. Well done Kai Devlin and Cormac Doyle for sending in their interview and poem. They are great fun and very creative! I will keep the resource that Ms. Lynch created on the page for all to access and I look forward to reading them all! The closing date for the book is Friday the 29th of May. Staying Active: From this week on, we are going to focus on Fundamental Movement Skills. Families can focus on 2 skills a week. Now that organised sports have been cancelled for the time being, it is the perfect opportunity to develop these skills in a non-competitive environment! This week the whole school will be focusing on Running and Side-stepping. Go to the Active School tab in Activities to find more information on this and fun games to develop these skills correctly. Mangahigh: This is an interactive Maths game that allows your child to play maths games with other children in the class. A text has been sent to parents with instructions on how to log in. It is completely optional and can be done at any time during the week. I have included it in Friday’s work just so that I am not adding additional work for families.Monday 11th of MayPractise Gaeilge phrases. So for ‘up’, child jumps/stands up, ‘down’, child sits/crouches down on the ground, ‘under’, child goes under a chair or table, and ‘over’, child stands on chair or jumps over an object. Fun at the Park- Magic! p20-21. -102870992505 00 Maths: Capacity. For some of this week we will be exploring capacity and giving the children the opportunity to learn about this topic through play. If you could gather the following resources from around the house and set up a water station outside. A basin of water, a cup, a jug(plastic if possible), a spoon and a plastic bottle. Today just allow your child to explore filling and emptying the containers into one another. You can pretend you are at a café or a restaurant if you want.Music: There Was a Princess .This is a lovely action song that we will be exploring for the next two weeks. This week try to learn the song and create an action for each verse. The video gives a few ideas if your child is struggling but your child’s ideas will always be better.Wednesday 13th of MayPractise Gaeilge phrases.Literacy: Letter ‘x’ videos and sensory activity. Just Handwriting practice copy: Third line only of ‘x’s on ‘x’ page.Fun at the Park- Magic! p22-24Skills Book A p66. Yesterday’s game should really help your child to complete this page independently. Ask your child to read both sentences in each box and to mark with a tick the true statement and an x for the false statement. Read and trace the sentence at the bottom, ensuring that your child is starting at the dot for correct letter formation. Capacity: The vocabulary to focus on today is ‘full’ and ‘empty’. Today fill the basin with water and ask your child to fill all the containers so that they are full. Ask your child to show you what the containers look like when they are empty. To stretch this learning you could ask for half full or half empty to see what your child comes up with. SESE: Re-watch the video of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Discuss with your child the different forms that the butterfly went through and ask them to draw the stages in order. So 1st an egg, 2nd a caterpillar, 3rd a cocoon and 4th a butterfly. Please do not hesitate to send on a picture of your child’s work so that I can put it on the website for their classmates to see. The email address is st.colmcilles1@ Thursday 14th of MayPractise Gaeilge phrases.Literacy: Letter ‘x’ videos and sensory activity. Just Handwriting practice copy: Fourth line only of ‘x’s on ‘x’ page. Build this sentence using words from word wallet. Write the sentence making sure that your child is using finger spaces and draw a picture of the sentence.Maths: Capacity. Repeat some of the activities from yesterday making sure that your child is using the language of full and empty. To extend learning today, experiment with your child. Guess which container holds the most or the least amount of water. How could you figure this out? Try putting containers in order. Look at how some containers are taller but thinner and others are shorter but wider. More than likely your child will have noticed these differences whilst playing around anyway. Friday 15th of MayPractise Gaeilge phrases.Literacy: Letter ‘x’ videos and sensory activity. Just Handwriting practice copy: Ask your child to draw an ‘x’ word in the space at the top of the page. If you could label the pictures when they are complete so that the children can use it as revision. Also this page has a few activities that could be used as recap for the week. Go to Activity book A and then The Zoo tab for ‘x’ activities. Book A: p67. Read the sentence in each box and match it to the correct picture. Read and write the sentence at the bottom. Re read the sentences at the top as it has some new words.Fun at the Park- Magic! Guess/Estimate and then ask your child to check by doing it.
