|PRIMARY PURPOSE: |

|Save the Children seeks a Deputy Chief of Party for AMAA, a USAID-funded girls’ education program in Malawi. The goal of the $10.5m, |

|five-year project is to improve the enrolment and retention of girls in upper primary and secondary schools and will focus on: 1) Improving |

|the agency of girls in upper primary and secondary school; 2) Improving access to secondary school through the construction of schools and |

|provision of bursaries 3) Improving the quality of secondary school through teacher training 4) Reducing cultural barriers to girls education|

|through gender transformative activities and role modeling. |

|The DCOP will have senior programme management experience within a development context, and demonstrate a keen understanding of education |

|project outcomes. Under the direction of the Chief of Party (COP), the DCOP will take the lead on overseeing program implementation, |

|specifically around sexual and reproductive health and lifeskills. |

|SCOPE OF ROLE: |

|Budget Responsibilities: Oversees district level budgets, works closely with finance manager |

|Role Dimensions: |

|Lead in project implementation while providing technical support to project staff. |

|Ensure project implementation is in line with the project plans and budget. |

|Build relationships with district and national level stakeholders |

|KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY : |

|Programme Management |

|In coordination with the Chief of Party provide programmatic leadership to ensure that program outputs are achieved over the life of the |

|program. |

|Oversee project work planning, implementation and management, ensuring the project's administrative integrity and technical soundness. |

|Provide strong management to the lifeskills component of the project, including liaising and supporting partners with their implementatoin |

|Closely monitor district-level activities, identify challenges and develop appropriate and sustainable solutions with guidance from the Chief|

|of Party and other program staff. |

|Work closely with project partners, providing support to ensure they deliver on tme and with quality |

|Cultivate strategic relationships with district level government ministries, local and international partners and other stakeholders for the |

|smooth implementation of project activities at the district level. |

|Oversee the development of timely, accurate and appropriate reporting of project activities and results for submission to the Chief of Party,|

|including progress and annual reports. |

|QUALIFICATIONS |

|Master’s Degree or higher in Education policy or a related field is required. |

|EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS |

|At least six years of demonstrated senior management experience in the Malawi development sector, preferably in education, and SRHR. |

|Proven expertise in developing and implementing effective partnerships with partners, local government entities, other NGOs and donors, |

|including USAID. |

|Experience supervising and leading teams, including international staff, using strong communication and interpersonal skills strongly |

|preferred. |

|Demonstrated experience in overseeing projects or components of projects that include teacher training or curriculum development. |

|Experience interacting with government agencies, host country government partners and counterparts, and international donor agencies is |

|preferred. |

|Demonstrated organizational skills and strong track record in meeting deliverables and deadlines and ability to provide oversight of |

|financial and operational aspects of programs is preferred. |

|The ability to manage a program of similar magnitude and complexity; work collaboratively across technical disciplines and implement |

|according to plans. |

|Strong English language communication skills – both verbal and written. |

|Proven leadership qualities, negotiation skills, and ability to collaborate with a wide range of partners and stakeholders. |

|Excellent interpersonal skills and the demonstrated ability to lead and work effectively in team situations. |

|The ability to travel extensively within Malawi is required. |
