Alongside mainstream recruitment and marketing activities in the region, the post-holder will develop a range of strategic, recruitment orientated international partnerships which enhance the University’s profile and capacity for international recruitment. The role holder will maintain specialist knowledge and expertise on the region to drive an agile response to market opportunities. They will serve as ambassador for the University in the region enhancing the image of the University internationally to advance student recruitment and other international agendas. Line management responsibility: Initially for one International Officer and two in-country officers in China and India (to be appointed).Main areas of responsibility:International regional responsibilitiesTo lead on the management of recruitment activities in the region ensuring that recruitment targets are met and strategic decisions are taken.Develop regional strategy and provide leadership, direction and oversight of international activities to ensure delivery of results within key markets.Develop a marketing and recruitment strategy for the defined region to be updated annually and supported by periodic market analysis for each market within the region and implemented through the production of an annual budget plan for that region.Develop and maintain contacts with institutions and key individuals overseas, in the UK (e.g. British Council, funding bodies, agents, embassies) and leading, advising and contributing to UK or international activities with a view to strengthening the University’s profile, student recruitment, partnerships, inward and outward mobility and research collaboration.Take the lead on analysis of data and market intelligence relating to the region and propose innovative marketing strategies or activities that capitalize on opportunities / mitigate potential threats.Conduct overseas visits to the defined region, operating with autonomy, exercising well-informed judgement, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and ensuring their own safety and the safety of others in overseas markets that can at times present additional security and logistical challenges.Line management and communicationTo provide leadership and direct line management of International Officers and in-country staff allocated to the region to ensure they are effectively mentored, supported and developed.To lead on the appointment of staff to their respective regional teams as required including the appointment and oversight of staff members to be based overseas (in China and India in the first instance).To take responsibility and accountability for the issuing of verbal offers for places on UoB courses as appropriate and in adherence to strict guidelines.To constantly develop and enhance specialist market knowledge across target countries within the region to support the identification of opportunities for new course development to aid international recruitment.To provide proactive support to the Head of Internationalisation as required with the implementation of the wider Internationalisation Strategic Plan.Regularly monitor and review strategy with the Head of Internationalisation, keep abreast with internal and external data analysis, the external environment and work with marketing colleagues to provide statistical analysis for Schools to inform portfolio development.To provide proactive support to schools in developing and maintaining tailored international student recruitment strategies.To work with Heads of Schools and their Management Teams (and relevant Marketing colleagues) to support their international student recruitment objectives and develop and implement tailored strategies.To work collaboratively with key colleagues around the University to facilitate the implementation of the University’s wider Internationalisation Strategic Plan. To develop recruitment orientated international partnerships that enhance international recruitment.Work in close collaboration with regional and central Kaplan colleagues on the development of collaborative recruitment initiatives in relevant markets.Develop and maintain partnership agreements in relevant regions to feed international recruitment.Ensure full market appraisal and a detailed assessment of potential partners is conducted in support of any new business proposition and advise on appropriate levels of due diligence to be conducted.Work closely with potential partners to understand and develop the business proposition and to produce written proposals and a business plan (for external audiences and for internal approval purposes).Assess the business opportunity at various stages and decide the priority and effort it will receive alongside other opportunities – act on a timely basis.Manage and distribute the allocation of a sizeable regional recruitment budget to maximize return on investment against the defined objectives.Other dutiesUndertake visits overseas normally of between one to three weeks in duration.To be prepared to undertake overseas visits which amount to the role holder being overseas for up to twelve weeks each year.Represent the University to outside bodies as appropriate (e.g. British Council, UUKi, overseas Embassies, Ministries of Education, Government sponsors), initiate and maintain good relationships with these organisations and develop appropriate collaborative strategic projects and agreements with clearly targeted outcomes.This Job Description sets out current duties of the post that may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the post or the level of responsibility entailed. In addition, to the eight Bank Holidays, there are university discretionary days between Christmas and New Year.
