Bill Kief ? President, OVR PCA If you are reading this article you already know we have a new Bent Pylon Editor, Wade Huston. Wade decided to take the PC and the deadlines from our retiring editor, Richard Groot and put his own creativity on our publication for the next few years. Wade, best of luck ? enjoy the ride. Everyone loved Richard's Bent Pylon covers - there was always a buzz around the magazines's delivery. Richard is now President of Traction, his own creative sports centric graphics company. So when you need your work to gain traction, you'll not find a better source. Thank you Richard. Your many Bent Pylons and your artistic talents are remarkable, from the Celebration 50 Promo Pieces to the POV literature, everything had your flair ? thanks again.

And mark your calendar for yet another great concours on September 30th at The VW-Porsche Reunion. Mac is an outstanding Concours Chair and the turnout for his events is the highest in decades for OVR. Don't miss this one day event starting at 8:00 am for show cars and 9:30 am for spectators. We will begin by parking Porsches, then move on to voting and finish off with awards. There will also be special awards. All Porsche models are invited. Wondering why all the concours winners will be at VW-Porsche Reunion? It gets them one step closer to a RPM coveted parking spot on the grass and under the trees...

October is OVR's break-through month. From last year's Celebration 50 to this year's first ever RPM - Rally Porsches Mariemont on Saturday October 6th and RPM casual car show on Sunday, October 7th. Yes, this is OVR's newest annual Signature Event. RPM is a casual car gathering to showcase our entire club. Many OVR members only use their membership for discounts on parts and services for their Porsche but there is so much more to our club. We are gathering members and their Porsches from all areas of our club - no names yet but when you see them you will know Concours winners, Autocross winners, Club Race Winners, Tour & Drivers Ed enthusiasts will all be there. Feel free to talk with them about their experiences in our club and perhaps a few ideas for you and your Porsche. And yes, you and your Porsche should be there too. Get all the details at

On October 12th, 13th & 14th OVR will converge on MidOhio and will hold its last driving event of 2012. Any driver who has taken his Porsche around Mid-Ohio knows how lucky he is to feel this track beneath his wheels. I'll be there and I hope you can make it too.

As always, you're invited to join your OVR Board meetings at Uno's, West Chester. We meet the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. Our one hour meeting is filled with enthusiasm for making our club its very best ? you're encouraged to add your ideas to our growing car club. We're always looking for members to get more involved. Just ask Wade Huston, our new Bent Pylon Editor.

Vom der Redakteur Rally Mariemont

Wade Huston- Editor, Bent Pylon Why did I volunteer to be the new editor of the Bent Pylon? First, I've always enjoyed reading it. Second, I wanted to have more fun with the Porsche club and thought this would be a great way to do it in my 15th year as a member. I had considered the position the last time it became available, but didn't put up my hand then.

My Porsche car history includes a 1987 944S and a 1993 968: both were daily drivers. My wife and I have owned our 1994 Carrera 4 for 12 years and in 2008 purchased a new Carrera 4S, collecting it at the factory and spending two weeks touring southern Germany.

I became aware of the Porsche club when a friend with a 914 talked me into doing my first Driver's Education event with Mid-Ohio region at Putnam in the fall of `92. I had a five year old Mustang GT, my first purchased-new car. Crashing wasn't an option since I couldn't afford to get it fixed. It didn't compare to the Porsches at the event, but I was still welcomed, just another guy having fun with his car. I did two or three DE's a year for a dozen years and became an instructor. I enjoyed helping other people have fun with their cars and even instructed my wife at a DE in our Carrera 4 at Putnam. It's been five years since I've been on the track but I'm starting to get the itch again.

See you there! ...and don't forget to invite your friends and family to Mariemont on Sunday, October 7!

Other events I enjoy are auto crossing, tech sessions and driving tours. My wife and I attended the Porsche Parade at Hershey in 2005 and we also drove our Porsche to Rennsports III and IV.

The Bent Pylon has been great up till now and I will try to keep it that way. The intent of the newsletter is to inform the members of local club events and provide coverage afterwards. Admit it: you love seeing your car's photo in the BP. I encourage you to submit articles and/or pictures from any events you attend to me at Bent Pylon@. I'll try to publish them. If you have an idea for an article let me know, we can work on it together. Some thoughts I have are interviews or profiles of local Porsche racers and collectors and technical advice from local mechanics. A travel article could be about where you drove your Porsche or where you saw Porsches (such as Dave Raum's piece on page 12). I might start a column featuring responses to a question such as: where did you drive your P-car last month, how many times did you wash it, are your spouse or kids allowed to drive it, is your Porsche on your holiday cards? I'm open to suggestions. If you submit an article know that the monthly deadline is the Friday before the board meeting.

Have fun with your Porsche this month.

Autumn Thunder

Dennis Okin ? OVR PCA Autumn Thunder Chair

Try a Driver's Education Event if you have never been... If you have been then you know how great Mid-Ohio is!!!!!!

Our region will host a driver's education event this coming October 13th and 14th at the highly regarded Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. This fine track is less than 3 hours from the greater Cincinnati area, and less than 1 hour from the greater Columbus area.

This Annual Autumn Thunder Drivers Education Course provides drivers with an exciting weekend activity where safety and fun are the most important rules. If you have never driven a road course in your Porsche or other type of vehicle, it is an exhilarating experience. You will learn to drive this course with one of our many talented instructors.

First timers: There will be two classroom sessions over the weekend which will help you understand the course, your car and performance driving. The first driving session will be without helmets. Your instructor will drive the first two laps at a moderate speed showing you the corner workers' locations, the proper driving line around the track and a brief demonstration of your car's braking capabilities. Then you pull into the pits and swap places in your car. This is where the real fun begins. You will slowly become more familiar with the track and your car's performance and handling attributes. During subsequent run sessions on Saturday and Sunday, you will improve your driving and knowledge of the track. At some point on Sunday your instructor will probably allow you to solo on one of the most famous road courses in the United States!! Please remember safety is our number one priority and you will drive to your own safe limits which greatly improve over the weekend.

You do not need to do anything to your car for this event. You do not need a helmet as our region has many loaner helmets. All you need are long sleeved shirts, closed toe shoes and we guarantee you will go home with a huge smile on your face.

An added bonus is the Friday night pizza party where you will meet your instructor and the other wonderful people who keep coming back to this event.

Still not sure? Try our Taste of the Track program which allows you to drive the first run session only and attend a classroom session. After driving the first session, if you want to complete the weekend, just pay the difference of a normal registration. Many of your friends in the Ohio Valley Region have done these driver education events and can tell you more. To register go to Club Registration at the following link: Past drivers, don't miss out ...register soon...you know you want to be there!!!!!! Time is running out, register soon; there are still some garages also available. Don't miss this great event. For many of you this will be your last DE of the year .......no better place to do it than Mid-Ohio If you have any questions about this exciting event please contact me at dennisokin@ or call me at 513-3005076.
