Talk: Transmission Voltage Capacitors - Substation

The application of capacitors on transmission systems has become critical

with the increased loading of these systems.  This presentation will discuss

the considerations in placing capacitors on the system, the construction of

transmission voltage capacitor banks - including protection, and operation

and maintenance considerations.

Bio of John E. Harder:

Mr. Harder is a consulting engineer with substantial experience with design

and applications considerations for transmission voltage equipment;

including power capacitors, surge arresters, capacitive voltage

transformers, etc.  He has provided expertise on insulation systems;

insulation coordination; testing techniques; and the design, protection and

operation of transmission systems.  He has been involved with a wide variety

of equipment applications since the early 1970's and has worked with many

utilities and industrials on applications and problems.
