Grading Policy

50% Daily (Quizzes, Homework, etc.)

50% Major (Test and Projects)

Minimum of 11 daily grades and 3 major grades per 9 week grading cycle. ONLY the FIRST

nine weeks will have 9 daily grades and 3 major grades.

Daily Work

In an effort to maximize our time in class, homework assignments could include watching a video or reading information in lieu of direct instruction in class. We will take time to discuss, but the primary learning will be responsibility of the student (not every day). These lessons would be assigned as homework.

Homework

Homework is given so that the students have an opportunity to practice and master the concepts taught in class. Completion of the homework is essential to success in the course. Homework collection for a grade will be periodic, unannounced, and will involve a variety of methods. Some homework will need to be completed using the Pearson website. If a student does not have internet access at home, he/she may use the library computers before or after school and during his/her lunch time. Technical difficulty is not a valid reason for failing to turn in homework. Students are also encouraged to utilize the Schoology Pre-AP Algebra 1 page if clarification or assistance is needed.

Quizzes

Quizzes can be given at any time to check for mastery of skills. These quizzes may or may not be announced ahead of time.

Tests

Please do not schedule appointments during testing days. All tests will be announced well in advance. A retention quiz will be given to all students as a daily grade approximately one week after the test. If a student fails a test, a retention quiz will allow them a maximum replacement grade of a 75.

Late Work

Work turned in late will be penalized as follows:

1st day late will be a grade of 70

2nd day late- 60

3rd day late- 50
