Project Assignment 2: WBS and OBS

Team Project Description

Task One: Incorporate a virtual company

Each team is required to create a virtual engineering company which is engaged in engineer-to-order operations with a functional organization of its resources. Each team is expected to enlist its employees of a sufficient number, similarly an equipment list, and a list of product lines (of which at least one has its complete component structure or BOM). Next, each team is expected to develop an organization structure with layers, units, roles, and positions to accommodate its employees. Lastly, each team needs to hierarchical WBS that organizes its company’s competencies.

Task Two: Instantiate the company onto Eproms (definition and configuration)

2.1. System configuration

• Change the system configuration

2.2. WBS configuration

• Classify and define WBS/OP types

2.3 Human resource configuration

• Create your organization with layers, units, roles and positions.

• Define system privilege for each role in each group.

• Enter employee data

• Specify employee’s capability

• Assign employees to position(s) to assume a role in an organization unit.

2.4 Operational parameters

• Define work calendar

• Define work shifts and work hours

• Assign workers to work shift

2.5 Equipment configuration

• Define equipment type

• Enter equipment data

• Specify equipment capability

Task 3: System operation, evaluation, and report

3.1 System operation

• Project management

■ Enter project info to create a project with at least two (deliverable) items.

• Item management

■ Create item info and manage item information

• Process planning

■ Define process plan for each item (i.e., create tasks, subtasks, and operations as required.

• Schedule

■ Use auto-scheduling or

■ Schedule manually

• Shop floor control as a group leader at a time

■ View Job list and assign operations to workers in your group

• Shop floor control as specialist at a time

■ View job list and execute operations assigned to individual workers until all operations are finished.

Note:

• Each specialist in charge of an operation interacts with system as he/she carries out each job assignment. After each operation is reported “finished,” his/her supervisor will log in and approve the work. After all jobs in work hierarchy for the item are done, the PC should go to “closing” under item submenu to close the project item.

3.2 System evaluation

• List the system strength and explain each how it could help engineering project management

• List the system’s weakness and propose solution approach to each weakness

3.3 Final report format

• Cover page

• Abstract page

• Table of contents page

• System design with charts and drawings

• System configuration with snap shots

• System operation with snap shots

• System evaluation with snap shots, when applicable
