The position functions as a senior level environmental public health specialist to carry out special projects that will ensure that activities of the Division’s childhood lead poisoning prevention program are coordinated with partners within and outside MDHHS and disseminated to the public to maximize the impacts of funding and policy on lead poisoning prevention.Duties and Responsibilities:Provide leadership and consultation in program implementation for case management of children in Flint with elevated blood lead levels: Consult on data collection, on-going data summaries, and program monitoring. Collaborate with the case management contractor (Greater Flint Health Coalition) and MDHHS.Lead in writing summary report of case management activities and outcomes for Flint EBL children. Oversee contract with Michigan State University regarding adults tested for lead in Flint (“ABLES Flint” project). Co-author/edit reports and publications, including summary report of ABLES Flint project.Consult on data collection, on-going data summaries, and program monitoring. Develop and implement project to follow up on children of adults with elevated blood lead levels.Consult with and provide technical assistance to state and local agencies/organizations and other interested parties regarding childhood lead poisoning prevention Provide subject matter expertise to the Child Lead Exposure elimination Commission and collaborate in the development and implementation of work plans and contracts/grants.Collaborate on the development and revision of laws and regulations applicable to childhood lead poisoning prevention.Perform other duties as assigned by the Division Director.Qualifications/Requirements:Education: A Masters degree in public healthExperience:Required: At least 10 years as a senior public health administrator and one year in the MDHHS Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program (CLPPP). Important Skills and Characteristics: This position requires high levels of initiative and accountability. Excellent oral, written communications and quantitative skills. A track record of at least 20 environmental health surveillance and other public health related reports and publications in peer-reviewed journals. In-depth understanding of CLPPP’s operations including surveillance data systems, policies, procedures, and partnerships. Ability to effectively communicate under challenging circumstances. Able to work well in team situations. Must be able to complete work in timely manner, and handle multiple tasks at one time with minimal supervision. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with email/internet browser software.Work Environment and Physical Requirements: Standard office environment. Requires valid vehicle operator’s license. Operate efficiently in a work environment that has frequent deadlines.
