Introduction

* Transcription is the process in which genetic information, stored in a strand of DNA (gene), is copied into a strand of RNA.

* Protein-encoding genes (structural genes) carry the information for the amino acid sequence of a polypeptide.

* When a protein-encoding gene is transcribed, the first product is known as messenger RNA (mRNA).
