Personal Support Worker Supervisor Permanent Full-time NON UNION (37.5 hours per week)

JOB POSTING: 2017-266 NON UNION POSITION

The PSW Supervisor, reports to the Director, Nursing Operations and provides daily supervision of PSW and Meal Helper staff. The Supervisor is responsible for the supervision, guidance, counselling, hiring, mentoring, and ongoing performance development of approximately 85 direct reports.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervision of Personal Support Worker and Meal Helpers Resident Care (85%) ? In adherence to the Long-Term Care Act, Accreditation and Personal Support Worker (PSW) scope

of practice, supervises PSW and meal helper performance of resident care, services and resources required to deliver quality resident-centered care. ? Supervises day to day PSW and meal helper care; meets regularly with the care givers and care team members. ? Collaborates with Managers Resident Care and other managers to obtain feed-back on the specifics or irregularities in resident care needs. ? Participates in the review of policies and procedures. ? Participates in Quality Improvements and Risk Management activities. ? Reviews workload and resident acuity with care teams to determine efficient use of resources; recommends changes/additions to the Manager Resident Care and Director Nursing Operations. ? Meets regularly with PSW's and meal helpers, communicating changes, education, mentoring and expectations. ? Investigates resident care concerns and complaints. ? Ensures adherence to all PRVHC policies, procedures and practices, including those related to Safety and Risk Management ? Builds relationships with families and significant others to improve resident outcomes. ? Ensures adherence to all safety and risk management practices, including follow up of employee incidents to ensure corrective action. ? Liaises with resident councils as required ? Participates with internal committees as required ? Performs other related duties as required

Human Resources (15%) ? Provides supervision, guidance, counseling and performance management of PSW and meal

helper staff ? Establishes good labor relations through knowledge, interpretation and implementation of health

centre policies and union contracts ? Responsible for the hiring of PSW and meal helper staff ? Attends grievance meetings and mediation ? Approves/declines vacation requested and PSW leaves. ? Participates in union/management activities. ? Counsels PSWs on attendance management ? Provides administrative oversight and performance management of PSW and meal helper staff ? Ensures yearly mandatory education is completed. ? Assists with orientation of new employees and students.

Candidates who will be considered will have a minimum of 1 year of experience working with seniors in a Long Term Care setting. Strong full scope PSW clinical skills, customer service, computer documentation skills and previous supervisory experience are essential. This position requires flexible work hours at times to meet supervisory needs. The candidate will possess interpersonal skills to work with peers, residents/families and direct care staff. Demonstrated knowledge of Point Click Care and Point of Care documentation is required. Bilingualism and knowledge of RAI MDS is a definite asset. RNAO Champion preferred.
