2011 Summer Intern MEASURE Evaluation: MEASURE Evaluation is looking for a student to work as summer intern for its Training and Capacity Building Unit. The student will work for 8 weeks during the summer. Ideally, the student will continue to work as a Graduate Research Assistant throughout the Fall & Spring semesters (2011-12 academic year) contingent on the availability of funds.

Project description: MEASURE Evaluation is a USAID-funded project implemented by the Carolina Population Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in partnership with Tulane University, Macro International, John Snow Inc., The Future's Group, and Management Sciences for Health. The project works globally to strengthen the technical capacity of in-country individuals and organizations for the identification of data needs and the collection, analysis, and use of appropriate data to meet those needs. It offers regional workshops in Asia Africa and Latin America to strengthen the monitoring and evaluation skills of local program professionals. It also has partnerships with University of Pretoria, South Africa; Centre Africain Etudes Superieures en Gestion (CESAG), Senegal; Instituto Nacional de Salud Publica (INSP), Mexico; Addis Continental, Ethiopia, and the Public Health Foundation of India, through which it offers workshops and masters-level courses on M&E topics.

General description of the position: The primary responsibility of the Summer Intern would be to coordinate the trainee follow up activities for the MEASURE Evaluation workshops and masters degree programs and facilitate the web-based community of practice for MEASURE Evaluation funded masters fellows.

• Maintenance of a web-based trainee database

• Contacting former trainees to survey them on their MEASURE Evaluation training experiences, including how they are using the information/skills that they learned during the workshop or Masters’ degree program.

• Facilitating an online Community of Practice (CoP) for MEASURE Masters Fellows

• Assisting the TCB unit in preparing their sections of the annual report for the project

• Compiling and analyzing evaluation results from various MEASURE Evaluation workshops

• Compiling data from in-country trainings conducted by MEASURE Evaluation

• Migrating distance learning course materials into a new platform

• Assisting on other training and capacity building-related projects, as needed, including possibly working with training officers to develop and implement a web-based community of practice for former trainees.

• There may also be occasional assignments from other project members

Work Schedule: 40 hr/week for 8 weeks during summers. Pending the 2011-2012 budget the position will continue as GRA for 15-20hrs/ week during the Fall / Spring semesters.

Skills required: The student should be conscientious, detail-oriented, a self-starter in need of minimal supervision and should have a genuine interest in capacity building (interest in M&E is a big bonus).

Salary: $15-16/ hour during the summer. Tuition and Health insurance benefits for the Fall & Spring semesters if budget allows for GRA position.
