Purpose

The position will be based in Dhuusamareeb district, the capital of the Galmudug State. The communications and Public Relations director will provide an excellent communication policies and strategies for the state house and college teams. He/she shall also be in charge of public relation affairs in the state house and Media contact person in the state house and web and publication supports for all college offices, departments, programs and services. In addition, the incumbent serve as an important liaison with external publics and media outlets to convene them while there’s press conference and share with them all the important information.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Summarizes and analyses the news contained in the press release both internal and external

• Monitors and evaluates the news program, broadcast by the media video and audio websites

• Participates and controls magazines, newspapers and newsletters

• Perform affairs that have to do with journalism and media audio-visual and electronics

• Prepare affairs related to the media field and other tasks assigned by the director general, president, or vice president

• Prepares the official daily activity of the President of the Sate for the appropriate media coverage at the presence of President, official celebrations and special activities inside and the outside the presidential place under the guidance of the DG.

• Accepts and fulfills any additional assignments as deemed necessary by the state house authorities.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism or similar University degree in Media, public relations or any other related disciplines.

• At least 3 year relevant experience in Media and public relations, more preferably.

Knowledge

• Sound knowledge of computer literacy such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint Presentation is required

• Good understanding of gender issues and rights based approaches

• Clearly conveying information and ideas through a variety of media to individuals or groups in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain their message.

Competence

• Excellent communication, planning, supervisory and interpersonal skills that will enable the identification of opportunities to establish effective strategic relationships between one’s area and others to achieve GSS objectives

• Ability to create and maintain a working environment that will promote value and respect diversity in the implementation process.

• High standards of ethical behavior and integrity and aability to identify, analyse and solve complex issues

• Excellent written and verbal communication in English and Somali languages.
