BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Elbashir is holding a joint appointment as a Professor in the Chemical Engineering Program and the Petroleum Engineering Program at Texas A&M University at Qatar. He is the Director of Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station Gas and Fuels Research Center; a major research center that involves 30 professors from both Texas A&M University main campus in College Station and Qatar campus (). Dr. Elbashir is also the Chair of the ORYX GTL Gas-to-Liquid Technology Excellence Program. He has extensive research and teaching experience from four different countries around the world, including his previous position as researcher at BASF R&D Catalysts Center in Iselin, New Jersey. The focus of his research activities is the design of advanced midstream and downstream natural gas processing units including reactors, catalysts and conversion processes to ultra-clean fuels and value added chemicals. He has established several unique global research collaboration models between academia and industry with research funds of multiple million dollars. He holds several US and European patents and a large number of scientific publications in form of peer reviewed journals, conference papers, technical industry reports as well as invited and conference presentations. The scholarship of his research activities has been recognized by awards from Qatar Foundation, BASF Corp., the Gordon Research Conferences, Texas A&M University, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Shell, ORYX GTL and others.

RESEARCH

Dr. Elbashir is leading a research team with a focus on developing midstream and downstream natural gas processing technologies for the production of ultra-clean fuels and value-added chemicals from natural gas (methane) and carbon dioxide (CO2). In addition, he has established world-class facilities at Texas A&M University at Qatar to support his research efforts on the Characterization and Formulation of New Generations of Synthetic Fuels and Chemicals obtained from natural gas, coal and biomass (the Director of the Fuels Characterization Lab). Dr Elbashir is the founder and director of a major energy research center of TEES. His team played a major role in the establishment of mega projects in collaboration with world leading industry (TOTAL, Shell Global Solution; Qatar Shell; Rolls Royce; GE (Oil & Gas); OryxGTL; Qatar Science & Technology Park; TOTAL; and Qatar Airways); and prestigious academic institutions (University of Cambridge, Northwestern University, Texas A&M University, Auburn University, DLR (German Aerospace Institution, University of Sheffield, Technical University of Denmark, Bradford University, Virginia Commonwealth University-Qatar and Qatar University).
