MOTHER SETON REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
MINI COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
Please read this carefully. Select two choices for each time slot, in case you are not able to get your first choice. If a course requires money and/or a signed permission slip, you MUST present the money AND the signed permission slip when you register. You will not be allowed to register for courses without necessary fees and permission slips. Permission slips are in the General Office and should be picked up and signed prior to registration. Appropriate dress must be worn for each activity. All courses which require leaving the building require a permission slip and proper attire which conforms to school guidelines and to the nature of the trip. The cost of any courses which require buses may go up if a minimum number of students is not reached. Some trips will return to school after the buses leave at 11:45; therefore, you will need to arrange for transportation home. The cost of some courses may be subject to change due to the number of students who register.
TUESDAY – MINI COURSE II
I. FULL DAY COURSES
GROUNDS FOR SCULPTURE………………………………………………Mr. Downey and Mrs. Roach
Tuesday, June 11th Visit the beautiful grounds and amazing architecture along with 100 foot plus
sculptures. The tranquil park has over 100 acres of beautiful scenery and
waterfalls. Grab a blanket and have a picnic or read a book or simply walk the
grounds.
This trip will require your own transportation home from school. We will return to Mother Seton at 4:00pm.

NEW YORK AQUARIUM……………………………………………………Mr. Moran and Mrs. O’Boyle
Tuesday, June 11th The New York Aquarium is the oldest continually operating aquarium in the United States. Occupying 14 acres next to the world famous Coney Island Boardwalk. You will see over 300 different species of wildlife including a brand new sharks exhibit, rays, seals, walruses, sea lions, jelly fish and maybe even find Dory or Nemo. When our group is finished take a chaperone guided tour of the Coney Island boardwalk home of the world famous Nathan’s hot dog eating contest.
This trip will require your own transportation home from school. We will return to Mother Seton at 4:00pm. Pick up your permission slips from Mrs. O’Boyle

Tuesday, June 11th Visit A Toute Heure in Cranford and get a taste of eclectic dishes and learn the behind the scenes of the restaurant industry.

II. TWO HOUR COURSES OFFERED FROM 8:30 TO 10:30 A.M.
PRAYER WORKSHOP………………………………………………………………………Sr. Joan Godeski
We will explore different forms of prayer, meditation, bible reading, contemplation, lectio divina, prayer journaling and reflection, so you can nurture your prayer life and develop a more intimate relationship with God. You will have an opportunity to relax and rest in the loving arms of God. We will also pray with Christian music. Let go of all worries and anxieties and come join us.

FROM THE EARTH TO THE MOON Mr. Gagliardi
A course commemorating the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing that occurred in
July 1969. "From the Earth to the Moon" we will view portions of the original 1998 HBO mini-series by
the same title. Students will learn the history of the Apollo space program that eventually resulted with
Neil Armstrong and, New Jersey native, Buzz Aldrin, setting foot on the moon on July 20th 1969.

THE REAL FAIRY TALE………………………………………………………………….Mrs. Perugini
Do you love Disney princesses? Have you wondered where these stories originate? Join us to read the original tales that were the inspiration for some of your favorite films and compare them to the modern versions. We'll read and watch over some fairy tale inspired treats.

QUIZZOS Mr. Jakubowski
A creative/fun mini-course in which students will develop a game called “Quizzos.” Within small groups of 2-3 students you will develop a PowerPoint slide presentation that would be used to “Quiz” an audience at the end of the course. Themes for your slide show can be of anything, examples include: famous celebrities, places of interest, musical groups, etc. You will incorporate the Engineering Design Process (EDP)

MANIFEST YOUR GOALS THRU VISION BOARDS………………..Ms. Zwiebel/Mrs. De Maio
Everyone has goals and dreams. How do we make them happen? Well a vision
board is a tool used to help clarify, concentrate and maintain focus on specific life
goals. You display images and words that represent whatever you want to be, do, or
have in your life. The only thing you need to bring with you are your goals.

CLASSIC FILMS FROM THE 90’S Mrs. Vaiana
Escape into romance with two classic movies from the 1990’s…Monday: While You Were Sleeping –with Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman. Tuesday: Sabrina with Julia Ormond and Harrison Ford. Snacks and refreshments will be available.

WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP Mrs. Otero
Are you an art enthusiast? If yes, join us in our discovery of new watercolor techniques as you paint from life. Explore, get inspired, enjoy the outdoors and appreciate art! Create watercolor landscapes surrounded by nature. Bring your own food, drinks and a blanket for a picnic break. All supplies are included. Please wear comfortable clothes.

Learn and play the classic games of Yahtzee, Apples to Apples, Life, Monopoly and others. Students are requested to bring a game if they have one.

Come and join the fun and play classic/traditional school yard games! From "Double Dutch Jump Rope", "Hopscotch", "Four Squares", "Jacks", "Mother, May I?", "Red Light-Green Light", "Stoop Ball", "Skully", "Bouncing a Pinky Ball", "Hula Hoops" and many more. There are no special requirements, just your participation for a fun-filled time!

WRITERS' AND POETS' WORKSHOP Mrs. Rotolo
Fellow writers and poets: "Come and lend me your ears." Join us in learning and appreciating the creative work and talents of fellow students as they share their poetry and stories. We will share, write and recite poetry and the written word. We will also discuss and analyze the major works of classic and modern writers.

ESCAPE ROOM
Use your wit and work together to find clues, solve puzzles, collect hidden items and escape in less than 60 minutes. Have fun while improving your teamwork skills.
