Hi! I am Idiku Ukpo but for my stay in the TIG/CLCWA training am named Boobzy. I am 16 yrs old and the second daughter but third child in the family

My experience with TIG started on the 20th August 2007 when I avail myself of the opportunity of getting involved, inspired and informed on issues affecting me and other young people in my community.

It began with my school counselor standing with a young man I later know as our peer Instructor in my home. I want then invited to attend the 9-day ICT training and I told my parent about it and they agreed that I should go, I freshen up and got on my way and arrived a few hours late, but not to worry its better late than never.

I got to know other participants, learned about their story and get to know them better and the objectives of the project which is ..’Realizing the potential of young people as development actor through Information, Communication Technology’. Inspired with that I learnt how to use the internet to fine resources, inspiration from the past and the history of TIG.

At the end of the training I learnt that leadership may be defined as speaking, listening and acting in way that mobilizing self and others to take effective action to realize dreams, vision and possibility. I have also learnt to be more outspoken, bold and confident as a young leader.

Thank you TIG/CLCWA-Nigeria

Idiku Ukpo

My name is Ekpei Ogban, am 16 yrs old male and currently the Senior School Prefect of Hilcrest High School, Calabar, Nigeria.

Throughout my experience at the training, I have been very satisfied with all what the peer instructor have shown me. I have understood something new in Microsoft word and excel. I have also understand something more on leadership and some leadership qualities I will emulate during my tenure as the school Head boy.

As a young leader, I understand the importance of speaking out on issues affecting us young people and the need to come together to have a social change just like what young people around the world and using the TIG website to get informed and inspired.

Thank you CLCWA –Nigeria

My name is Edima Ekanem. I am 16trs and from Akwa Ibom State. I am the second child and the only daughter in my family. I intend being a neurosurgeon and to establish my own medical clinic. I am inspired to do this because most Nigerians travel abroad for major surgeries, so I intend to change that.

I heard about TIG through a friend and didn’t really know what’s all about. Firstly, all I ever did with a computer is to play games and keep on wondering how people get information and how to calculate. I have not actually made any effort in the past, but with this CLCWA training ; in less than a week, I have learnt a lot. I have learnt how to create folders, how to save documents, how to design and create fliers as well as complimentary cards. I also learnt about entrepreneurship as well as marketing plans.

Since I signed into TIG site, I have got some useful insight about HIV/AIDS and other health issues.

To crown it all..Here is a little text about health

‘He who has health has hop.

He who has hope has everything

All this and many more, I learnt from TIG.

Edima, Nigeria

CLCWA program is about helping young people realize their potentials using ICTs. I am always inspired when I remembered Benjamin Carson, a poor black young man growing in a racial community where the blacks were being oppressed. He was able to make the difference in medical community as a successful neurosurgeon. I am so proud to be part of this great program. ICT is becoming a great part ofour everyday lives.

This training has changed my life and how I view life. I have learnt about entrepreneurship and public speaking skills. I can successfully plan and start up a business. I can boldly air my views in public on any issue whenever I am called upon. In have also learnt about how to search for information on the internet, especially with TIG site.

Finally, I have learnt how to be just, thoughtful, responsible and accountable leader. It has been a wonderful experience being part of the training…

Thank you

Godstime Etim

I aspire to be a Medical Doctor because I love life and health. I want to save life and cure the diseases of Nigerians and possibly Africans.

Is an educative organization which is one of the few organizations that have the interest of the youth at heart. For me, TIG is a world of great opportunities. It has made me believe that you can do whatever I wants to do, and be what I want to be as it links hundreds of youth around the globe together to share ideas, experiences and views with their peers. You can also get information ranging from nature and classroom discussion.

I have learnt a lot in the CLCWA training programme. The trainers have been wonderful. They make learning easier and fun and I rarely get bored.

My Daughter, Kelechi Ubani, participated in the 1st 9 day training programme at NYSC Model School and since then, my household has changed. Every day, she will tell me that she will like to visit an internet café where she can look for resources on TIG site. Now everyone in my house is talking about getting a computer for the house so that Kelechi could teach others. TIG/CLCWA training has really impacted the youths. You the organizers; might not actually see the impact now, but I believe this training will change the course of our time… Nigeria will achieve greatness soon.

I have also identified some nine to ten young person and professional, some even with Cisco certification who has shown strong desire to contribute effectively to the progress of the project. And also have identified some infrastructure based areas, though some are not yet enabled. Bauchi State

In the interim we have identified 5 youth groups/organisations that we intend to work with for the projects and have been able to meet with 3 of these groups. We have discussed about the project and are also looking at possibilities of partnering with them for the successful implementation of the project.

Getting already involved persons in Bauchi was not possible since there was none to the best of my Knowledge at the beginning of the project. However, we have a few persons that have subscribed as a result of the project. Again, we have contacted 4 ICT professionals that have responded and shown their willingness to assist us during the capacity building activities. We have also, identified a technology enabled infrastructure and material database; a school with a computer room with about 15-20 computers connected to the internet. We were able to contact them and they have shown their willingness to allow us use their facilities.

A lot of People see the project as a good initiative and a means to an end especially in the northern part of the country where less young people are involved in ICT. They believe that with these projects more young people will get inspired by the activities and hence develop interest in development of ICT in Bauchi.

I also attended a workshop for CBOs/Youth groups and FBOs on project Formulation and implementation towards the successful implementation of the Strategic framework on HIV/AIDS on the 1-3 of August 2007. The workshop had 35 participants in attendance. I was able to discuss the project with some of the participants of which they appreciate the initiative and promised to support me when the need arises.

We’ve been able to form a local team of 4 members and are already identifying participants for the capacity building activities. We have also identified and are contacting some organisations for collaborating purposes. We are also strategising on how to solicit for sponsorship for some of these activities
