Activity Summary:

In this activity, the students review ratios and proportions in light of the application in genetics. They even come up with their own ratios and proportions in this interactive PowerPoint followed up by a board game.

Grade Level:

6th Grade

Time Required:

30-50 minutes

Materials:

Printed Board Game

Dice: one die per pair of students

Printed Card Sheets

Scissors to cut cards

Paper to work out questions on the board game

Pencil

6.2D Estimate and round to approximate reasonable results and to solve problems where exact answers are not required;

6.3  Patterns, relationships, and algebraic thinking. The student solves problems involving direct proportional relationships.

A. Use ratios to describe proportional situations;

B. Represent ratios and percents with concrete models, fractions, and decimals; and

C. Use ratios to make predictions in proportional situations.
