One Fat Summer – While most people are happy to take off their heavy jackets and long pants, Bobby can’t even button his jeans or touch his toes.  This particular summer at Rumson Lake promises to be worse than usual.  His parents can’t stop fighting, and his best friend goes home to New York City.  The trouble continues….

Chew on This - Adapted from the best-selling adult book Fast Food Nation, this is a look at fast food:  what’s in it, how it’s made, and what it does to our bodies.

The Kid Who Invented the Popsicle - Brief, factual stories of how various familiar things were invented, many by accident, make for an informative read.

Left For Dead - Nelson explains how the research of 11-year-old Hunter Scott, who was inspired by a passing reference in the movie Jaws, uncovered the truth behind a historic WWII naval disaster aboard the USS Indianapolis.

Code Orange - While conducting research for a school paper on smallpox, Mitty finds an envelope containing 100-year-old smallpox scabs and fears that he has infected himself and all of New York City. 

Olive’s Ocean – Twelve-year-old Martha Boyle stands on the brisk of discovery:  about her family, about first love, and mostly about herself.  As her family prepares for the annual visit to her paternal grandmother, Martha is given a journal entry from her classmate, Olive, who was killed in an automobile accident.  Martha didn’t really know Olive, but the journal entry makes Martha reflect on what might have been if Olive hadn’t died.

Search for the Shadowman – Andy Thomas discovers a black sheep in his family while conducting research for a school history project.  Against his parents wishes, he decides to try and solve a murder mystery by using the Internet.

We Beat the Street -  The thoughts and stories are shared from the childhoods, teen years and young adult lives of three men who made a high school pledge to each other to stay safe from drugs, gangs and crime, and work to become doctors – a goal they have achieved.

Tracking Trash - This book describes the work of a man who tracks trash as  it travels great distances by way of ocean currents.

Promises to Keep - Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in baseball in 1947 when he began playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers.  In this photobiography, his daughter writes a personal account of this famous athlete and civil rights activist, and the legacy he has left.

I Am the Cheese - In I Am the Cheese, Robert Cormier brings a nightmare scenario to life. Adam is a teenager who is on a difficult journey, traveling by bike to meet his father in Vermont. He seems terrified of what's happened in his past, though he's also scared of the gaps in his memory. Through these transcripts, we learn that while working as a journalist, Adam's father gathered evidence of widespread corruption and has testified before a secret government committee. As a result, his whole family was given new identities for their own protection.
