FUTURES

WHAT IS IT A futures contract is a financial instrument that helps traders manage price risk. By buying or selling futures contracts (agreements that establish a price level now for items to be delivered or cash settled later), traders ? both individuals and businesses ? seek to establish some level of insurance against adverse price changes.

HOW DOES IT WORK Futures contracts are standardised according to the quality, quantity, delivery time and location for each commodity. The critical variable is price, which is derived dynamically on the exchange.

Futures are distinguished from generic forward contracts because, among other criteria, they have a margin requirement that must be settled daily.

WHO TRADES FUTURES Today, speculators have become substantial participants in the futures markets and are a major source of trading volume.

WHICH FUTURES ARE TRADED ONLINE Interest Rate and Financial Futures Among the most popular and useful contracts are financial and interest rate futures. These contracts offer informed speculators a dynamic arena for interest rate movements that can be captured in various European and U.S. treasury instruments and interest rate products.

Equity Index Futures Equity index futures offer investors participation in the movement, both up and down, of the stock market without making trading decisions on specific securities. In this way, individuals and institutions are able to protect their portfolios, and, in many instances, enhance income by purchasing futures contracts on the indices. Among the more popular indices today are the E-minis, which are smaller versions of equity index future contracts and are fully traded electronically.

Currency Futures Currency futures are traded online by traders and investors with particular interest in the movement of currencies over time. Among the most popular currency futures are Australian Dollar Future (AD), British Pound Future (BP), Canadian Dollar Future (CD), Euro FX (EC), Japanese Yen Future (JY) and Swiss Franc Future (SF).

Commodity Futures Commodity futures are futures contracts based on physical commodities. These contracts include agriculture, energies, meats, precious metals and softs. Investors trade these types of futures both to hedge risk brought about by dealing in the commodities themselves and to speculate on the impact various financial factors will have on the prices of these commodities. Some of the more popular commodities futures include gold, copper, crude and heating oil, corn, wheat, cocoa and orange juice.

FUTURES ONLINE WITH THE SAXOTRADER At Saxo Bank, we offer a broad range of futures that can be traded online using the same platform on which investors trade foreign exchange, CFDs, stocks, managed funds and options.

MARGIN As margin-traded instruments, futures contracts offer investors the distinct advantages of leveraged investments. The initial deposit required for online futures is a fraction of the overall cost of the contract. For our investors, this means greater liquidity and diversity in their investment portfolio.

PROFITING IN UP AND DOWN MARKETS Futures offer today's serious investor the opportunity to profit in both rising and falling markets.

We offer aggressive pricing on futures trading.
