Wednesday, April 1, 2020Remember if you have any questions please feel free to email me or Remind App me. I will continue to post daily different activities and websites you can do with your child. This is a great way to get schooling done at home.Parents, if you would like to send me pictures of your child’s work you may send it to me either through the Remind App or through the email nsaglimbeni@.Learning our alphabet and learning numbers does not always have to be done the old school way. Learning should be fun and engaging for your children. I am checking Get Epic and Happy Numbers daily and I do see the children working from home. Please remember if you have any questions please feel free to email. I am available Monday through Friday 7:30am to 2:30pm to answer any questions or concerns. Please remember to have your child write their names everyday. It is an important part of our daily routine and we want them to continue to practice. Some of them have begun to write their last names as well, please continue this with them. Continue to utilize the links and resources to help them. Continue to learn and grow. Enjoy the time with your families and please keep safe. Big hugs to the children from me!Read their favorite story and have them draw their favorite part of the book. Engage in picture walks with your child let them “read” the book to you.I have created two new tabs on my school blog. One is Read Alouds and the other is At Home Learning Pictures.Story Time – Read book – Listen and watch the book – Don’t Lose It – Reuse It! – Question of the Day – Can you predict whether you think monsters or real or pretend? Now lets elaborate and connect monsters to reduce, reuse, and recycle. How do you think monsters are in reduce, reuse, and recycle. Can you elaborate on the reason why you think that? (This will then end up bringing the concept of a litter bug / litter monster?) The students will be able to make a combined chart. On the top of the chart the students will be able to choose whether they think monsters are real or pretend. Then on the bottom of the chart after we spoke about the litter bug / litter monster the students will be able to choose whether they think that monsters are real or pretend.Art Center – The students will be able to create their own litter monster using toilet paper, or paper towel tubes. The students will able to use various art materials to create their monster. Why is not nice to littering and pollute the Earth?Art Center – Parents can help their child build a robot using recyclable objects from around the house.Interdisciplinary – Art / Music – Homemade Instruments – Since your child will be singing a lot at home why not make an instrument to go along with it. It’s a great way to recycle some materials and keep your child’s mind moving while working on some muscles in their hands (fine motor). You can use anything you have in your house to make it.Blocks – Use any materials that you may have at home to build structures with your child. Materials that may be used are plastic cups, pans, boxes, legos, wooden blocks. As you build discuss the process on why certain materials can or cannot be used to build because of weight size or design. Can are great tools for building towers. Students can compare empty cans with full cans. Which ones will be best to build a stable tower? Why?Dramatic Play – Use a laundry basket and “go fishing.” Have your child create a fishing rod with any objects that is long and skinny. You can take it a step further and make fish using recycled materials with either letters or numbers and have them go fishing with them. Have your child identify the letters and numbers.Math Center – Use bottle caps from recycled water bottles to practice addition skills. How many bottle caps do you have? How many do you have altogether?Literacy – Letter Xx – Please practice writing the uppercase X and lowercase x. Have your child identify the upper and lower case Xx. Discuss with them things that begin with the letter for example, xylophone, x – ray, etc. Allow your child to hear the Xx sound and come up with words that start with the same sound (independently). If we were in school we would have a big letter Xx and the students would be able to say some words that begin with the letter Xx and I would write them on the big letter and put the picture there as well. I am asking if you may please work with your child to make a letter book for the letter Xx. For example: cover page – Letter Xx – Inside pages – they would draw and write picture for the letter Xx. For example xylophone, x – ray, etc. Allow your child to hear the Xx sound and come up with words that start with the same sound (independently).Literacy – The students will be able to make a small video and tell me three or more words that begin with the letter Xx. (THIS IS NOT MANDATORY).Literacy – Play a scavenger hunt with your children, find different things that start with the letter you want them to learn. Use playdough, shaving cream, paint, paper to engage your children in fun activities to write, make, and learn the letters or numbers. If you would like you can also visit – LeapFrog Letter Factory.Literacy – The students will chart ways we can love the Earth for example like saving water, and not polluting. Create a small video and tell me several ways on how we can love the Earth. Cooking and Nutrition – Discuss how we reduce, reuse, recycle in school both in the classroom and at lunch. The students will discuss how they can throw away their garbage after lunch. The milk can go into the blue pail and the rest can go into the black pail.Writing – The students will be able to work on writing their name both first and last. Students will use sand paper, paper, and crayons to write their names. The students will learn that even though something is used for thing we can use it to make and do something new. (This will connect to the Art Center) How can you reuse the sand paper to make something new?Housekeeping – Students will clean up after themselves after breakfast, lunch, snack, and center time. They will push in their chairs at the table. This shows independence and how they take care of other things.Science – The students will learn the importance of washing their hands. Materials needed: black paper, water, bowl, dish soap. First, fill up the bowl with water. Next, sprinkle in some black pepper. Then, ask your child to put their finger in the bowl. Ask them what happened? Finally, tell your children to rub your finger in some dish soap and then put that same finger back into the black pepper and water. Again, ask them what happened now? This can be an ongoing activity to do with your child. It is an activity that reminds children to wash their hands. Also, explain to the children that are our hands are like magnets germs attach to our hands easily. Here is a short clip on how to start: – Students will be able to experiment with polluted water based on the book The Adventures of Gary and Harry: A Tale of Two Turtles. In one bowl or container, students can add food and garbage. In another bowl, keep empty. They can try to clean the water by filtering their previous polluted water using coffee filters, paper towels, or old socks to help keep and save their environment. When going on you litter walk, think about ways that you can make a difference in your environment. Draw a picture of what you saw on your litter walk.Gross Motor – Since now we have to spend our time indoors visit , it has lots of fun filled and energizing exercises and movement based activities to keep your children active, while at home.Technology – The Reduce, Reuse, Recycle video shows the children different ways they can help the Earth stay clean and not pollute their environment. When the video is done ask your child to come up with ways they are going to help everyday. Independence – Allow your child to clean up after themselves. Example – meals (set / clear the table, help prepare meals, wipe down the table) – crafts (clean up area in which they do their crafts, take out / put away materials needed for crafts) – Clean Up (put away manipulatives / toys used, have your child clean up one set of materials before moving on to the next craft / game / toys). ................
