Operations Manager

 

AB Environmental (ABE), headquartered in Bohemia, Suffolk County, NY, has been successfully operating for over 35 years as a regional provider of hazardous & non-hazardous solid & liquid waste collection, transportation and disposal services using specialized vacuum truck, VACTOR and box truck operations with a NYSDEC-permitted solid and liquid waste consolidation / transfer facility.  ABE provides environmental subsurface investigation, remediation and construction services; hazardous materials management; and, 24/7 emergency and spill response services throughout the NYC Metropolitan Area for municipal, industrial, commercial and residential accounts.    

We have a current opening for an experienced Operations Manager to oversee the planning, preparation and performance of the Operations including Facilities, Fleet and Dispatch.

Job Description

The Operations Manager will ensure continuous high-quality interdepartmental communication, coordination, decision making and performance across Facilities, Fleet and Dispatch personnel, as well as enable the highly effective and efficient interoperability of the Operations ‘organization’ with the Development / Sales, Program Management and Customer Service functional areas of ABE.

ABE’s management team remains focused on implementing a responsible, high-growth business plan.

All of the Company’s work is performed in compliance with OSHA, US EPA, US DOT, state and local environmental, safety & health and related regulatory requirements.

Direct reports to the Operations Manager will include a Facilities supervisor, a team of Diesel Mechanics and Dispatch personnel. Nearly thirty full time hourly DOT drivers, equipment operators, technicians and laborers will report jointly to the Operations Manager and Dispatch personnel. The Company anticipates the full time hourly operations workforce will expand to nearly fifty (50) individuals in 2016.

Responsibilities

✓ Oversee the Operations and deliver a cost effective performance across all functional departments continuously;

✓ Set Operations priorities and provide guidance and direction to achieve the underlying objectives;

✓ Responsible for the Operations practices, processes and procedures that assure Company assets and personnel are performing assigned work in a way that results in an optimal production cost, adherence-to-specification, safety, and environmental compliance;

✓ Select, train and manage a work force that is motivated, flexible in skills, cross-trained and technically astute ensuring an effective and motivated team;

✓ Facilitates teamwork among employees and departmental representatives to achieve performance goals;

✓ Participates and performs root cause analyses of close-call incidents, injuries and accidents;

✓ Prepare accurate records management and documentation to assure proper reporting of Facility, Fleet and route / project performance;

✓ Make expeditious appropriate decisions to non-routine Company operating conditions;

✓ Actively coordinates with ABE’s Development / Sales, Program Management and Customer Service areas to maximize Company performance and market opportunities;

✓ Ensures that the Fleet equipment, trucks and specialized tooling are maintained and operated in accordance with established safety standards, operating procedures, and prudent industry practices;

✓ Establishes and implements a Fleet beautification, and Preventive Maintenance (PM) program;

✓ Demonstrated experience in dealing with human resources, general administration, and policy implementation issues;

✓ Prepares and monitors annual Operations Department expense and capital budgets and provides this information to the management team;

✓ Ability to serve as Dispatcher and Facility supervisor in their absence; and,

Formulate / execute projects assigned by the General Manager or Controller;

✓ Visit client sites where work has been performed to review quality of work and make corrections where necessary.

Qualifications

- Working knowledge of safety, environmental and labor laws and regulations;

- Minimum of fifteen (15) years relevant experience preferably in a truck-based business model;

- Exceptional communication skills;

- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university preferred;

- Previous experience in a business-unit leadership position, specifically supervising employees;

- Ability to participate and perform root cause analysis of issues and make sound business decisions;

- Basic understanding of O&M and capital budgeting;

- Oriented towards working in a competitive environment.

The Operations Manager should possess a valid driver's license and safe driving record, and must be able to pass a Company-administered pre-employment Non-DOT drug test.
