Explanatory Notes
This achievement standard is derived from Level 7 Health and Physical Education in the New Zealand Curriculum (HPEiNZC), Learning Media, Ministry of Education, 1999, achievement objectives A2, B2, D1 pp. 26-27.
Collect evidence requires that the student gathers information from personal participation in physical exercise/activity and could also gather additional information from observation, texts and other sources, eg latest fitness trends, advertising or media images, visiting local fitness centres, ‘gym culture’.
The implications for self and society involves examining attitudes and beliefs, eg the credibility of the fitness industry, concept of ‘healthism’ (refer p. 56 HPEiNZC).
Critical discussion could include an analysis and/or evaluation of the relationship between physical exercise/activity and health, and the implications for self and society. This involves critical thinking as defined on p. 56 HPEiNZC.
