Adding a hyperlink to a data window

Adding a hyperlink to a data window

By adding a hyperlink to a window, you can provide direct access to:

Integrated reports

External websites

Other applications.

The hyperlink design, through SQL, expressions, and functions, identifies how these hyperlinks can be responsive to the data currently displayed in the window.

To use these hyperlinks, you must include the HyperlinkTurnOn=Y setting in the [Misc] section of the TTS50.ini file. For more information, see the “Installing and setting up the Integrated Reports module” chapter.

Note: Only users having system administrator rights in TMWSuite can add a hyperlink to a data window.

Instructions for hyperlinking a report and a website to a data object in a window are provided on the following pages:

Setting up a hyperlink 8.2

Launching a hyperlink 8.6

Changing the settings for a hyperlink 8.7

Removing a hyperlink 8.9

Setting up a hyperlink

To set up a hyperlink in a data window of a TMWSuite application, follow these steps. You can add a hyperlink to an object such as a data column, a label, or a bitmap.

Note: When hyperlinking to a report, you must first create the report using the Integrated Report Designer. See the “Designing reports” chapter for instructions on creating a report.

1. Open the TMWSuite application and window in which you want to add the hyperlink.

2. Right-click on the object that will contain the hyperlink.

3. Select Report Setup from the shortcut menu.

4. The Select Menu to Setup dialog box opens.

Select the Hyperlinks tab, and then click New.

5. The Hyperlink Edit window opens.

The Window, Window Control, and DataObject fields identify the location in the window and object that will contain the hyperlink.

Note: To access this hyperlink’s setup window in the future, you must right-click in the same section of the window.

In the example shown here, the hyperlink will be contained in the Carrier field (Control) in the Order Header section of the Trip Folder:

6. If necessary, from the Control drop-down list, select the control that will provide access to the hyperlink from the list off all available controls.

7. In the Description field, enter a name for the hyperlink command.

Note: When more than one hyperlink is attached to the same object, you select the one you want from a list. The list displays the entries that were made in each hyperlink's Description field.

8. In the Command Line, enter the command to use.

Sample commands that you can use:

Open a Word document.

This sample uses a simple command line to open a document from within an embedded report.

Open a report with variables from the retrieved data.

This example uses the f_open_report function as follows:

The report name is encased in quotation marks. Each of the 20 retrieval arguments must be accounted for. In this example, one argument (cmp_id) is used, and the remaining 19 are included as blanks.

Execute a URL that includes variables from system data.

This more advanced example uses two functions to plot a company’s location on MapQuest:

The f_shellexecute function is used to open MapQuest.

The f_sqlstring function is used several times to pull city, state, and address data from different parts of the system that are not contained within the linked datawindow.

Open the Check Calls window.

This example opens the Check Calls window from the Available trips grid in the Planning Worksheet of the Dispatch application.

This example uses the f_open_checkcall function as follows:

Expression: f_open_checkcall (legheader_lgh_number, 0, '', event_evt_tractor, evt_driver1_id, evt_carrier)

9. Click Save.

10. Click Close.

Launching a hyperlink

After a hyperlink is added to a window, you must close and reopen the host window for the hyperlink to be applied.

When you move the pointer over the hyperlinked object, it changes to the hyperlink icon.

If one hyperlink is assigned to an object on a window, clicking on the object will launch the hyperlink command.

If more than one hyperlinks are assigned to the same object on a window, clicking on the object will open a dialog box, listing the names of the hyperlinks.

You can select the command to run, and then click OK to launch the hyperlink command.

Since hyperlinks ordinarily launch a separate application, such as an Internet browser, or a window, such as a report, you should close the launched window when finished, and then return to the host window.

Changing the settings for a hyperlink

Follow these steps to change a hyperlink’s properties.

1. Open the TMWSuite application and window containing the hyperlink.

2. Position the cursor in that section of the window that contains the hyperlink’s setup.

In the example shown here, the hyperlink setup was attached to the Stop Detail section of the Trip Folder.

3. Right-click and select Report Setup from the shortcut menu.

4. The Select Menu to Setup dialog box opens.

[pic]

Select the Hyperlinks tab.

5. Select the hyperlink control to modify, and click Open.

7. Refer to the previous section for information on the settings to make your changes.

8. When finished, click Save.

9. Click Close.

Removing a hyperlink

If a hyperlink is no longer needed, or if it was added to a window in error, you can remove it. Follow these steps to remove a hyperlink from a window location.

1. Open the TMWSuite application and window containing the hyperlink.

2. Position the cursor in that section of the window that contains the hyperlink’s setup.

In the example shown here, the hyperlink setup was attached to the Stop Detail section of the Trip Folder.
