Dear Head Teacher

Celebrate National Libraries Week 2019

with

Mrs Carnegie, wife of The Richest Man in the World - Andrew Carnegie

and how he built Keighley Library

Performed by local author, playwright, actor and historian Irene Lofthouse.

Developed especially for schools with Bradford Libraries.

Bradford Libraries are delighted that we can offer schools two performances celebrating the extraordinary life of Mrs Carnegie, wife of The Richest Man in the World.

What made Andrew Carnegie and Louise Whitfield come to Keighley to build a library and thousands more across the world? Discover how Andrew went from poverty to billionaire. Find out about the lavish life style and trans-atlantic crossings that they both enjoyed but still retained an appreciation of learning for all.

Audiences will discover how Keighley came to have the first Carnegie and historically significant library; find out about the Carnegies and the on-going support its Trust still gives to libraries.

The performance includes interaction and audience participation. There will also be an opportunity for pupils to view local archive and press materials from the Keighley Library Local History collection and complete a quiz relating to the performance.

Our Mrs Carnegie performances are at: - Keighley Library, Local Studies, North St, Keighley BD21 3SX on Tuesday 8th October 9.30am – 11am and Wednesday 9th October 1pm – 2.30pm.

Sessions are suitable for Y5 or Y6. All sessions are free of charge. We have places for 30 children for each session from two schools. We will offer one place (15 children max) per school.

If you are interested in booking one of the events above please fill in the form below. The deadline for applications is Friday 20th September. Your school will be sent a letter of confirmation via email if you have been successful in securing a place. If you require further information please contact christinea.donnelly@.uk
