Classroom Notes for Room 30
Classroom Notes for Room 30
Week of January 13-17, 2020
Monday is Day #2 of our five-day specials schedule.
NWEA Scores- I will send home a record of the NWEA scores from the testing in December on Monday. Also, before the week is over, I believe the office will have a more complete report to send home. (I hope it is in color!) The more complete report will include percentiles. The ‘RIT’ scores that don’t increase will drop in percentile because growth is expected in the three areas of Reading, Math, and Language as the year moves forward. Monday afternoon students who showed growth will be part of a quick CELEBRATION! (Thank you, Office!)
I will be absent on Friday. Please make contact with office if you need to have messages for your child.
Pizza Hut Book It! Reading- Please help by documenting your child’s reading minutes while they are away from school. The goal increases by 50 minutes each month until we finish the reading program in March with a 500 minute goal. The purple January Book It! calendar goal is 400 minutes. It is due Monday, February 3rd.
Bin for Box Tops for Education- Our classroom has a separate bin now for PTO’s collection of Box Tops for Education.
Friday Spirit Day: Disney Character Day
Math- Students take a 25 problem test each morning, beginning with addition facts through 12+2. The post test will probably be January 23rd or 24th.
-EL#6 Apply the area and perimeter formulas for rectangles to solve real-world problems and other mathematical problems. Recognize area as additive and find the area of complex shapes composed of rectangles by decomposing them into non-overlapping rectangles and adding the areas of the non-overlapping parts; apply this technique to solve real-world problems and other mathematical problems.
-As you might expect, the labelling of perimeter using the name of the unit and the labelling of the area using the squared unit is a downfall for students.
-Later, students will be breaking irregular shaped figures into parts to find area and perimeter. In that case, a problem area comes from students not marking the length of each side of the figure. They will certainly need to ‘doodle up’ the work they are doing.

-Spiral Review #18 (If you see this at home, please be sure that it comes back to school until Friday.)

• Students with perfect score will only need to test on the 5 challenge words.
