The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1986.

CHIRLA is a California leader with national impact made of diverse immigrant families and individuals

who act as agents of social change to achieve a world with freedom of mobility, full human rights, and

true participatory democracy. CHIRLA organizes and serves individuals, institutions and coalitions to

build power, transform public opinions, and change policies to achieve full human, civil and labor rights.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Graphic Designer will handle the visual content that represents the Coalition for Humane Immigrant

Rights (CHIRLA) and the CHIRLA Action Fund and expands our communications, marketing and

fundraising efforts externally and internally. This position supports the Communications Director directly

but plays a key role for the organizations¡¯ relevance and voice in the general public. Duties and

responsibilities broadly support communications and public relations efforts and increased awareness

of CHIRLA¡¯s mission and programs. CHIRLA is a state-wide l non-profit organization dedicated to build

a just society for immigrants.

Oversees all graphic design, including vector, motion graphics, and social media content, needs

and facilitates marketing campaigns from start to finish.

Work with other creative team members to produce compelling, concept-driven collateral for

digital and print use that is consistent across all platforms (website, social media platforms,

emails, and print).

Create guidelines for how logos and other branding materials should be displayed and used.

Help make design choices (e.g., fonts and colors) for all content used at CHIRLA

Assist with editing and distribution for marketing and donor communication vehicles both on and

offline, including but not limited to newsletters, E-Newsletters, appeals, etc.

Assist with coordination of updates & improvements on CHIRLA¡¯s and CDN¡¯s Web sites

Align with PR, social media, design, and digital

Coordinate photography for/of events, activities, etc. for use in publications, media, etc. and

ensure appropriate releases are signed and filed; maintain graphics & photo files.

Ensure projects are completed with high quality and on time

BA or higher degree in graphic design, marketing, public or media relations, communications, or

related field, - or demonstrated minimum of 3-5 years¡¯ experience in one or more of these areas

Bilingual (Spanish) desired

Highly organized, attention to detail, results oriented

Time management skills to work on multiple projects at once and with various deadlines

Strong design principles and values from experience while collaborating with partners and

absorbing feedback

Exceptional verbal, written, & presentation skills in various formats, from a short e-mail to a

press statement or a letter

Strong editing skills and welcoming of collaborative feedback environment

Mastery of industry-standard software to create logos, design reports and complete other

projects, such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, Sketch, InDesign, and others.

The ability to clearly communicate the reasoning behind design choices.

A compelling portfolio with projects showcasing skills

Strong knowledge of graphic Design fundamentals including layouts, typography, print, and the

web

Ability to creatively find solutions to challenges and work independently without much

supervision but feel comfortable asking for assistance

Ability to anticipate, manage and resolve conflicts

Team player with leadership skills, abilities and desire to interact with people at all levels

Demonstrated dedication to work effectively with immigrants and other target groups

Ability to work effectively with coalitions and community organizations and partners

Must have own transportation, a valid Driver¡¯s License, and be able to travel independently

between multiple work sites
