November 9, 2017

Call to Order: Meeting was called to order by Regent Sydney Glazener at 6:30pm at the Orange Park Woman's Club.

Welcome: Regent Sydney welcomed all of Chapter members, prospective members and guests. Honorary Regents, Cindy Addison, Barbara Albright, Cheryl Field and Julia Saldivar were recognized. Prospective members were asked to stand and be recognized. Members were asked to greet these ladies during the break after the program.

Roll Call: 50 Members were in attendance and signed in. Program: Program Chairman Terreca Hurley introduced the program. Catherine Phillmon, Community Employment Coordinator with the Department of Veterans Affairs, North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System, presented the program for Homeless Veterans. She gave information about the housing services provided in the Jacksonville area. Currently, 595 homeless veterans have been provided with housing and 414 have accepted social services case management (which helps them to connect with healthcare and financial resources). A presentation was made of household items collected by the Sophia Fleming Chapter NSDAR for veterans transitioning into housing. 5nute Break

President General's Message: Vice Regent, Terreca Hurley read the message.

National Defense Report: National Defense Chairman, Lynn Vernon gave a report regarding a project to register the three million women who have served or are currently serving in the U. S. military since the Revolutionary War. (report on file)

Approval of Minutes: The minutes of the October meeting, held on October 12, 2017 were reviewed and approved by committee. Minutes are posted on our website. The November meeting minutes will be reviewed by Debbie Wilkins, Debbie Corson and Beverly Valliere.

Reports of Officers:

? Regent's Report ? Sydney Glazener: Highlights of the DAR Day of Service, Christmas card signing project for USO, and Genealogy 101 workshop were given. Application for Outstanding Teacher of American History for Cindy Cheatwood was submitted. (report on file)

? 2nd Vice Regents Report ? Lynn Lisenby: Information on the Christmas Social and Silent Auction items requested was given; Voices for Insignia, Wreath & floral were described.

Committee Reports:

1. American Indians, Betsy Fenoff; Conservation, Cheryl Field; and Flag of the USA, Jane Chafin. Minutes are on the tables. (reports on file)

2. Americanism ? Seven members will attend the Naturalization Ceremony on 11/16/17 distributing flag lapel pins to the new citizens and also to a group of school children who will be visiting.

3. Schools ? Wendy Kuczler: Sophia Fleming Chapter is partnering with PACE Center for Girls/Clay County by providing items from their wish list. (Wish list on file)

4. DAR Project Patriot ? Ellen Godfrey: Reported the Christmas Card Signing project for USO has 1,745 cards completed and over 2,000 expected to be submitted.

5. DAR Service for Veterans Committee ? Sue Royer and Sarah Sullivan; Veterans Day Ceremony at Magnolia Cemetery DAR members will bring finger sandwiches. Wreaths Across America project was described where each wreath is $15 for individual donors.

6. Sophia Fleming Scholarship: Basket was passed for donations to the scholarship fund.

Unfinished Business: Bylaws Voting ? Cindy Addison, By-Laws Chair, gave the second reading of the proposed by-law changes. Each section was moved, seconded and passed. (full report on file)

New Business: Drawing for winners of a wreath and floral baskets was held.

Announcements:

1. Saturday, 11-11-17 members will be at Magnolia Cemetery for the Veteran's Day Observance Ceremony and providing finger sandwiches.

2. Thursday, November 16th members will be attending the Naturalization Ceremony. 3. The next meeting will be the Christmas Social on Thursday, December 14th. Members are to

bring a favorite dish to share along with an item for the silent auction. 4. Thank you to the Social Committee: Wendy Kuczler, Marty Shelnutt, Lynn Cartledge, Kenda

morning to do the rest.
