CRACK THE CODE: LEARN WHAT THESE SAYINGS MEAN

There are a lot of sayings that relate to money. But what do they mean? See which of these expressions you've heard, and which ones you understand.

Laugh all the way to the bank. Means: Make a lot of money easily, often because someone else has done something foolish.

It won't break the bank. Means: It won't be too expensive.

You can bank on something or someone. Means: You can be sure of the thing or person.

Go for broke. Means: Risk everything to achieve your goal.

Money doesn't grow on trees. Means: Money isn't that easy to come by.

Money talks. Means: Rich people have a lot of power and influence.

He has money to burn. Means: He has a lot of money to spend on unneeded things.

Put your money where your mouth is. Means: Follow-up what you say by taking action.

Hit pay dirt. Means: Discover something very valuable or very useful.

A penny for your thoughts. Means: What are you thinking about?

That cost a pretty penny. Means: It was expensive.

Rob Peter to pay Paul. Means: Borrow money from one person to pay back the money you borrowed from someone else.

You can bet your bottom dollar. Means: You can be very sure of it.

A penny saved is a penny earned. Means: It's just as useful to save money that you already have as it is to earn more. You can act on this saying. Deposit money into your savings account at DCU so you'll have it to use another day.

MILLION DOLLAR DREAMS?

Do you dream about being a millionaire? Think it's easy to become one? It may not be as easy as you imagine. Most millionaires weren't handed money from their parents. They didn't win the lottery. They went to college. Many own their own businesses. Becoming a millionaire takes hard work and patience.

If you think you can handle being a millionaire, here are some tips that may help get you there.

B e patient. You can't save a million dollars overnight. Building a fortune takes time and patience. You have to resist the urge to take money out of your savings.

O pen your own business. Many millionaires made their money by starting and running their own company. It isn't easy, but if you decide to open a business when you get older, it could help you reach your goal of becoming a millionaire.

G o to college. Did you know four out of five millionaires graduated from college? Many also have medical or law degrees. It pays to stay in school!

S ave your money. Most millionaires are very smart about how they spend and save their money. They make wise investments that allow their money to grow. If you get in the habit of saving money now, you'll have a head start when you're older.

R ealize that money isn't everything. Have you heard the saying, "Money can't buy happiness"? While it's true that having money can sometimes make living easier, it isn't a magic potion to happiness. Find a job you enjoy and the money will come.

And remember, the sooner you start saving, the closer you'll be to making money. Start by making a deposit to your savings account at DCU.
