Angela Award female student in grades 58 who is involved in science. The award is a $1000 US Savings Bond. The award was established in honor of Gerry Wheeler, Executive Director Emeritus of the National Science Teachers Association. Deadline for application November 30th annually. Apprentice Ecologist Initiative Scholarship Students between the ages of 13 and 21 who are interested in protecting wildlife and the environment. To be considered, you must conduct your own environmental stewardship project in 2015, take digital photos of your project in action, and write an essay about your project and what it meant to you. Deadline: December 31, 2015. First place winner will earn $500, second, $250, and third $100. Visit

The Defining Theme of Our Age Essay Contest Students of all ages may apply. You must submit a 15002500 word essay on the following topic: "How do you think history will record the 21st century?" Submissions should be factual, but with an inspirational style that will feed both your reason and soul. Winner will receive $1,500. Deadline date: November 30, 2015.

Engineering Encounters Bridge Design Contest 2016 US students age 13 through grade 12 at the time of the registration. Participants compete individually or in teams of two members. This engineering competition involves designing truss bridges. Each member of the first place team receives a $1,000 scholarship and a notebook computer by Dell. The contest is sponsored by American Society of Civil Engineers and Dell. See Mrs. Miller regarding entry dates.

Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes Students aged 818, who have developed an exemplary service project that helped people and the planet. Winners receive a $2,500 scholarship. Deadline application date: April 15, 2016. The application window opens on January 4, 2016.

Letters About Literature Entries consist of a personal letter to an author, living or dead, from any genre explaining how the author's work changed the student's way of thinking about the world or themselves. The contest opens in September and the deadline is December 1, 2015.

The Paradigm Challenge Middle school students may work in a team or alone in creating an original and creative way to generate new ideas in preventing injuries and fatalities from home fires--America's #1 disaster threat. Entries may come in the form of posters, videos, inventions, messages, community events, websites, mobile apps, or anything else that will help save lives. Additionally, you must submit a brief statement of your idea (140 characters or less) in order to qualify for this award. Award: $100,000. Deadline date: May 1, 2016.

Prudential Spirit of Community Awards Middle school students who have made a difference by volunteering in community over the past year may apply in September 2015 at . State winners will receive a $1,000 award and national winners $5,000. The awards are sponsored by Prudential Financial and the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

Team America Rocketry Challenge 2016 National model rocket competition for US middle school students. It is sponsored by AIA and the National Association of Rocketry. The top 100 teams compete for $60,000 in scholarships.

Youth Free Expression Project Film Contest Middle school students can submit an original film of four minutes in length or less about a censorship issue or event from the past 40 years or explore what you think the major free speech questions of the future. Entries can be videos of any type including documentary, animation, experimental, satire, fictional narrative, or music video. The award amount is $1,000. The deadline is December 14, 2015.
