Job Title: Assistant Superintendent for Student, Family and Community Support Services

Reports To: Chief Operating Officer

Dept./School: Student, Family and Community Support Services

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Pay Range: 902 Date revised: 04/28/2020

Primary Purpose: Responsible for all support services related to students, families and community. Qualifications:

Education/Certification: Master's degree in educational administration or equivalent program from an accredited college or university (required) Principal certification (required) Superintendent certification (required)

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to demonstrate and provide strong internal and external support for Plano ISD Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences Excellent knowledge and understanding of all facets of public school operations, with expertise in the area of Student, Family and Community Support Services Knowledge and understanding of the change process, organizational development, conflict resolution and facilitation skills Highly effective organizational and consensus building skills Knowledge and understanding of all legal and local policies Experience: Successful experience as a building level and central office administrator

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Responsible for student and family services, guidance and counseling, alternative education, MTSS, after school programming, employee childcare centers, Section 504, attendance, discipline management, community wraparound partnerships/services, substance abuse prevention, Student Support Team (CMIT) process, truancy, social emotional learning, counseling and guidance, social work, family and adult education, school age parent program, mobile computer lab, discipline, special programs centers, after school programs, and homelessness.

Direct the work of the Student, Family and Community Services team to ensure that each area of responsibility is managed and effectively meets the needs of the organization and is responsive to all campus, student, and family needs.

Be knowledgeable of developments in state, federal and local laws and public policy affecting education.

Responsible for following and ensuring compliance with all appropriate local, state, and federal laws affecting education.

Ensure that a continuous improvement cycle exists to achieve district goals and produce desired outcomes related to student and family services, including each area of supervision.

Ensure programming and service delivery effectively supports students' growth academically, socially and emotionally.

Determine the fiscal needs of programs and make appropriate budgetary recommendations that support the mission of the district.

Develop and support a district-wide vision and mission that strategically supports the whole child.

Provide continual assessment and identification of student and family needs throughout the district in order to establish community partnerships and utilize grants to expand services to stakeholders.

Oversee collaboration with University partners to establish and maintain a family mental health and counseling clinic.

Establish and maintain strong collaborative partnerships with Universities to support college academic planning.

Work collaboratively with other departments to pair community partners and resources to identified needs.

Research regularly current practices and studies in order to adapt existing programs and practices related to improving student outcomes.

Develop and oversee necessary memorandums of understanding with service and community partners.

Participate in community activities to build relationships between the district and the larger community

Articulate the district's and school's mission to the community and solicit community input in achieving district goals

Serve as a liaison to parent organizations and other community-based organizations

Support the Education Foundation, PTA/PTSA, and community advisory groups and organizations

Hear and act on district level complaints that may come to the attention of the Assistant Superintendent for Student and Family Services through established appeal processes.

Guide and oversee the work and professional growth activities of the Executive Director, Directors, and teams in the department of Student, Family and Community Support Services

Follow all rules, regulations and policies of Plano ISD

Perform other functions that may be assigned by the administration

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Executive Director of Student and Family Services Director of Guidance and Counseling Director of Family and Social Services Director of Campus Support Services

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands: Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy, procedures, and data; coordinate district functions; maintain emotional control under stress

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Frequent districtwide and/or statewide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours; work with frequent interruptions; frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling; prolonged use of computer and repetitive hand motions; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds

Any work-related experience or additional education/training resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements at the sole discretion of District Administration.
