Sustainability

Reunion Island already pays far above average for the coffee they import because of its premium quality. However, paying a fair price to farmers is only the beginning. They have also taken an aggressive approach in supporting sustainable development in the coffee industry by offering coffees that have been certified under the programs outlined below.

THE RAINFOREST ALLIANCE According to , their mandate is "to protect ecosystems and the people and wildlife that depend on them by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behavior. Companies and cooperatives that participate in our programs meet rigorous standards that conserve biodiversity and provide sustainable livelihoods." FAIR TRADEtm CERTIFIED Transfair.ca explains their philosophy as an organization, "Fair Trade is an international system of doing business based on dialogue, transparency and respect. It contributes to sustainable development by offering better trading conditions for producers and workers in developing countries. Behind the principles and goals of Fair Trade is a rigorous international system of monitoring, auditing and certification."

USDA ORGANIC For a coffee to be certified organic, it must be grown in a manner that excludes the use of fertilizers, pesticides, hormone treatments or steroids. Organic farmers instead must rely on superior growing practices, natural fertilizers and alternative methods of pest and disease control.

BULLFROG POWEREDtm Bullfrog Power is committed to increasing the amount of green power on our regional electricity grid systems by developing new renewable generation facilities. Several new turbines have been commissioned to meet the needs of bullfrogpowered homes and businesses.
