Era II: Classical Civilizations and Rise of Religious Traditions, 1000 b.c. (b.c.e.) to 500 a.d. (c.e.)
By the end of this unit, students will demonstrate knowledge of ancient river valley civilizations including those of Mesopotamia, Egypt, the Indus River Valley, and China and the civilizations of the Hebrews, Phoenicians, and Nubians by:
1. Being able to locate these civilizations and place them in the correct time periods.
2. Describing the development of social, political, and economic patterns – including slavery.
3. Explaining the development of religious traditions in these socieites.
4. Describing the origins, beliefs, traditions, customs, and spread of Judaism.
5. Explaining the development of language and writing.
By the end of today’s block, you should be able to explain:
1. The key features of Mesopotamia.
2. Learn the basics of the early Egyptian society.
Assessment: Chapter 2, Section 2 Quiz
Part I – Chapter 2, Section 2 Quiz (10 minutes) Individual

Part II – Lecture: Mesopotamia (45 minutes) Whole Class

Use the time remaining to work on your homework due next class or even on the assignment for next class!
