The active voice tells you that someone or something does something.

(The dog bit the boy)

The passive voice tells you that something is done by someone or something.

(The boy was bitten by the dog)

A pronoun is often used to avoid repeating a noun.

(Tim found a purse. He took it to the police)

A semi-colon (;) can be used to separate sentences that are close in meaning.

(He ran down the stairs; he reached the door; he opened it)

Colons (:) are used to introduce a list. (There are two reasons why you shouldn’t’ go to the party: you have not finished your work and you haven’t tidied your room)

Words that sound the same, but have different spelling and meanings are called ‘homophones.’

Words that sound the same and have the same spelling, but different meanings are called ‘homonyms.’

When a word ends in y, to make it plural, change the y to i and add es.

When a word ends in f, change the f to v and add es.
